If the sound is just one click. Then your starter has gone bad.It is located in the front of the engine underneath:)

Rapid clicking would be a bad battery or poor battery terminal connections.

My Mazda Millenia won't start or turn over. I replaced the battery and still nothing. When I try to crank it all the lights come on but that's just about it? What's wrong?

Do you have any other symptoms, like the lights dimming when you turn the key, or a clicking sound from the engine compartment?
It sounds like your starter is not engaging and that could be from a number of reasons. The main culprit is usually the starter solenoid, which is the main switch between the battery and the starter motor. Sometimes the starter itself is faulty, very possible, so have that checked. If you can't move the car, you will have to take the starter out. You could do a quick check if the starter will turn or not.
1 Remove all jewelry from your hands. There is a LOT of power on the starter, you don't want to cook your fingers.
2 Take a heavy metal object, preferably a large screwdriver that you have no emotional attachment to.
3 Short out the two big terminals on the starter solenoid. The starter should now spin, but will not engage. If this happens, the starter might be OK.
4 Trace the main battery cable to the starter. Now short out the main cable to the smaller contact on the starter. This should pull in the solenoid and turn over the engine. If this does not happen, your solenoid is suspect. If the engine does turn over, you have a wiring problem, or a problem on the ignition switch. The latter is very unlikely, but possible.
Happy hunting!

Starter clicks but will not turn engine over on 2004 Dodge Durango. New starter and battery.

Hi Mark
Sounds like you are doing all the right things.
We used to Load Test a Starter Motor by putting it in a Large Vice and connecting a known good battery with solid fat jumper leads.
When the solenoid throws the cog forward to engage we would use a 2 by 4 block of wood levered against the cog to try and stop the starter from spinning. The wood burns up under load but it quickly proves the Starter is functioning under load. Without using the engine.
Also you could try removing the spark plugs on the engine to allow the compression to escape. Make sure NO sparks around to ignite any fuel vapor.
The engine should spin over easily like this and you can hear & see if anything is binding up.
Hope this Helps!
Good luck!

Hi my 2006 Jeep Liberty won't start or turn over all keep hearing is this click sound when I turn the ignition , Plus I just replaced the battery .

Probably a starter. It sounds like the starter solenoid is working, but the starter motor is not energizing.

You could try this simple trick, but Im about 85% sure you have a bad starter.

Have a buddy help you push the vehicle in neutral for a short distance. When you get it moving at a walking pace, put the transmission in Drive, and let the vehicle come to a stop. You may hear a little clicking, but thats OK, it wont hurt anything. Put the transmission back in Park and try to start the engine again. Sometimes the starter gear gets stuck on the flywheel and it wont engage when you try to start the engine. This trick may move the flywheel a little so the starter can engage.

Battery good power to the starter 2000 ford windstar radio works turn ignition on get nothing 3.8 eng. no power in engine fuse box compartment 1 relay warm & another clicks in fuse box under...

#1 Try starting the car in Neutral, if no start replace the Park and Neutral safty switch. #2 Check for a faulty starter solenoid. #3 Check for a faulty stsrter motor. #4 Check for a faulty ignition switch. #5 Check for faulty starter Relays.#6 Check the Transmission Range sensor it could be out of adjustment or defective. #7 On 1998 and later models, the power relay is in the power distribution box in the engine compartment. Refer to your owners manual for more information on relay location. Good Luck From Ernie @ RedDeer, Alberta, Canada.

Where is the starter relay on a 94 Honda Accord

Yes, it sounds like your solenoid is bad and staying engaged against the flywheel, you could do an amperage draw and a voltage drop test to find out for sure, but you will need an DVOM and a amp clamp. Or you could take it into an auto parts store and they will test it for free. Hope this helps.

Engine will not turn over or make much of a sound.

It sounds like it is probably your ignition switch. Either that or your starter selenoid.
