Radio won't turn on no clock

I've replaced radio,checked fuses,replaced gray box that antenna plugs into.checked wiring for power supply.need wiring color codes for this vehical's radio factory install with casset.don't know what wires go where pulling hair out please HELP THANKS

What does fuse called radio-b do?


If your unit has digital display as most do now, RADIO-B will supply constant power to power the units memory so it can remember the preset channels, starting volume etc. The power antenna is usually controlled by a separate wire from the unit (normally blue) this wire supplies a low voltage signal to the antenna, The antenna will also have its own power supply and earth at the base of the antenna, the problem could be there. depending on the antenna, some have a controlling relay that is separate, again another possible source. there will also be a fuse in the main fuse box. These will all need to be checked, along with connecting a power source to the antenna to ensure the antenna does actually work.

Check the fuse box in the engine compartment and look for the interior illumination fuse. Before you replace it you will need to unplug the radio harness and check the new unit's memory lead, the switched 12 volt lead, and the Ground wire. Somewhere one or two of these have been either connected incorrectly or the wires were pinched when the dash was reassembled.


Also check the fuse in the new unit's harness and make sure it is ok. Here are the basic power wires in the Tacoma...yellow is 12v constant, red is accessory (turns on with key),and black is ground.
If there is a blue wire, it needs 12 volts when the car is running and the radio is turned on. Check your new unit's wiring diagram for the power antenna or amplifier turn-on lead and connect that to the blue wire.

Did you disconnect the stereo wires you'd hooked up and see if everything went back to normal? It's easy to connect some custom equipment to the wrong wire. Depending on the stereo you installed, there would probably be 3 wires that are battery positive at any time, and at least one ground wire. There's a wire that's "hot" all the time that provides power to keep the station memory and clock, etc., set. Then the wire that actually powers the radio when you turn it on. The other wire would be hot FROM the radio when oyu turn the radio on, and it's meant for cars that have an electric antenna so the antenna raises automatically when you turn the radio on. If you connect either one of those wires to the wrong wiring harness wire, you can have power to something at an inappropriate time. The best thing to do (without cutting the harness wires) is to use the proper power leads in the factory wiring harness. Otherwise, if you look at your truck fuse-box diagram, you should see that one fuse is marked like "constant battery". I think that will be the fuse towards the front of the truck in the very bottom row of fuses. The wire for your station memory/clock can go to that fuse. The fuse towards the BACK of the truck in that same row is "radio/ignition". THAT fuse only sends power when you turn the ignition switch on or to accessories. Use it for the radio power. If you don't have an electric antenna, don't bother with that wire. To wire straight to a fuse, you need to determine which leg of the fuse power comes in on, then strip about half an inch from the wire and wrap it around the leg of the fuse that goes in the OTHER side. That way your system is protected by the fuses. If/when all that is done, you may have blown a fuse or relay in the big box under the hood on yop of the left fender-well. Let me know if you need help still, but as this problem is 4+ months old, I imagine you fixed it already. bushman_dread@msn.com

You have it right. Use a 12 volt test light to see if there is power between the gray and brown wires when the key is on. If there is power there, you may have got hold of a bad radio.

Im installing a JVC KD - A315 radio in a 2003 alero, when i took out old radio all the wires were cut and turned into speaker wire running all over the place the factory amp is in the back i went ahead...


There may be extra wires you don't need. The basic set of wires on the radio is 4 pairs of colored wires--one black-striped and one plain for each speaker. Yellow is usually accessory power, red is hot, and black is ground. Some additional wires may be one for a power antenna, one for an external amplifyer, and one for facelight (in case it will run on dimmer)
The car should have the following corresponding wires:
Radio 12v--- orange
Radio Ground--- black
Radio Ignition--- yellow
Radio Illumination--- brown
Dimmer--- gray
Power Antenna--- pink (if you have one)
LF Speaker +/- tan - grey
RF Speaker +/- lt green - dk green
LR Speaker +/- brown - yellow
RR Speaker +/- dk. blue- lt. blue

The car or radio could have additional connectors, such as for a subwoofer, CD changer, etc.

Half of electrics stopped working but yet the fuses are okay


Time to do a wiggle test of the fuse box wiring. The circuits mentioned are not directly connected , but may travel through common wiring plugs. Try the fuse box fuses again (there may be more than 1 fusebox) Interior light / Radio / Antenna / Clock may be on a battery circuit but not connected to the Fog light not the turn signals other than a connecctor plug or simular.

On the fuse box behind the driver side left kick panel find the Radio fuse and connect the main power to that remember to keep the full time power connected to the proper wire so your clock (if you raido has one) will keep correct time. If you are not sure which wire on the radio is full time power and which is the on off power check the manufacture web site for information or call there help line. From the radios I have done and I am no expert beleave me but the ones I remember always used Red for the main power (the one that should be switched so the radio comes on with the key and not have to be turned on and off) the full time power for the clock and memory features is usualy yellow. Black or green can be ground but use caution as these could also be speaker wire colors. If you cant find the fuse location from the original radio you can use a simple volt meter or just a 12 volt light blub with two wires attached. simply take the negitive side and place that wire on a bolt that is screwed into the car metal body or frame or to a known ground wire. take the positive end and start touching the positive wires on the back on fuse box. if you start with the key off you know everyone that lights up has constant power so mark them with one color perminate marker. next turn the key to ACC. and see which of the non marked have power and again mark them with a different color (one of these will be the one you want to use just make sure you pick one with a small fuse as most radios will melt long before a #25 fuse blows again check the manufactures spesifications for the proper fuse range to use. Now the only thing left to do is to turn the key to on and make sure the power sorse you plan to use stays on withthe key in on as well as acc. now connect the red wire to the source chosen and leave everything else alone and you sould be fine. I can stress this enough you should always check with the manufacture of the radio before playing with the wires to make sure you dont put the wrong one in the wrong place because doing so can dammage the radio of worse your car. Also keep in mind I am not a professional and am offering the way I would approch this problem if it were me doing it. If possable your best bet is to take the car to a professional so you have some assurances it is done correctly and you wont come out one day to find your car has caught fire and is a pile of ash because you put this wire where that one went and didnt notice anything. by the way you tell me that the radio illumination is the gray wire and all of the rest you are wrong. try the correct way red is key positive,yellow is constant power,black is ground,orange is illumination,blue is remote,gray is right front positive and gray black is negative,white is left front positive and white black is negative,green is left rear positive and green black is negative,violet is Right rear positive and violet black is negative,
