Question about 1999 Nissan Pathfinder

1 Answer

I have recently bought a 1999 Nissan Patrol - diesel. It is producing an excessively large amount of black smoke when starting and on acceleration. Once cruising this ceases to be in issue. We have had it looked at by a mechanic who says it is not excessive for a vehicle of its age - however people behind us certainly think it is!! Please could you advise. Thank you

With out a doubt it is over fueling ,should be a small amount on heavey acceleration,on startup the is an overinjection feature to aid starting,If you go to a deisel injectionservice centre they can cut the fuel back .In the worst case scenario you may need the injectors serviced and unless it has doneone hell of a lot of miles the pump shouldnt need any more than adjustment. One thing you need to be aware of is they must have clean fuel , no skimping on filters---------happy motoring

HOW TO FIX A NISSAN PATROL BLOWING WHITE SMOKE AND HAVING A BLOWBY

White smoke from the exhaust is usually a sign that the head gasket has failed. But, it could be an oil system failure in the Turbo cooling system. It would help to know the engine and fuel type in your Patrol(They make so many different models, and they aren't all the same)

Hi all.. My car is recently producing a large amount of black smoke ... And engine (quite shaky) just stop a low speed ( at a red light or so) specially when I turn on the AC. A friend told me that it...

Black smoke is usually excess fuel.
The problem could be faulty fuel injectors or the fuel pressure regulator. Or a restriction in the air intake. Or a faulty O2 sensor.
If you remove the spark plugs you may find the cylinder or cylinders with too much fuel.
If that is the case, you would need to test the injectors and the fuel system.

How much should my Ford ranger 2.5td be smoking,is it normal for diesel engens to smoke.

Sometimes diesel engines will put out black smoke under extreme acceleration. Other than that, they shouldn't smoke. Black is excess fuel, White smoke is water and bluish is oil. White smoke on a cool morning is not necessarily a sign of a problem unless it happens every time you start it through a warm day. Hope this helps.

Large amount of white smoke on first start of the day

Have you had the injector recall check carried out? There is a problem with these injectors and this produces the symptoms you are describing. I suggest that you contact Isuzu direct for help. They have been very helpful in the case of my trooper

Welcome to the world of diesels....

Black smoke is produced when too much fuel is injected into the cyl. There could be several issues here, but I would start with running a diagnostic on your O2 sensors and MAS/MAP sensors.

I hope this helps
