Speedometer and tack and odometer quit working. but the cruise still works ?? mitsubishi galant

Just an explaination. The cruise control gets it's signal from a sensor on the driveshaft or the tailhousing of the transmisson, it does not connect to or use any signals from the tach or even speedometer because that might tax that system and give inaccurate results. It's always been done that way from the very start of cruise control. The speedometer also gets it's signal from the same place(s) physically but not electrically the same. And that used to be mechanical. I would assume that your dash unit became unplugged somehow (wiggle connections to refresh metal contacts) or else it's bad and needs to be swaped out for good parts. Anything like a lightening strike or bone jarring pot holes in the recent past?

Transmission speed sensor

You could have a faulty speedometer/odometer combination meter causing a false Vehicle Speed Sensor error.
My 1998 Sienna had the following symptoms:
- Speedometer and odometer failed intermittently
- The check engine light would come on and I would get a p0500 code in the OBDII.
- The cruise control would stop working at the same time the speedometer failed.
There is a speed sensor in each one of the tires and they feed the speed information to the ABS ECU. From the ABS ECU the speed signal goes to the speedometer/odometer combination meter, and from there it goes to the Engine Control Module and to the Cruise Control ECU. I could see a signal coming into the speedometer/odometer, but no signal going out. Replacing the speedometer/odometer combination meter fixed the problem.

I have a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country. The speedometer quit working. It has quit once before but came back on its own. The odometer is working.

Bad instrument cluster. Common problem try getting used from wrecking yard. Verify by checking for cruise control operation. If cruise works the cluster has failed.
