Question about 2005 Buick Rendezvous

1 Answer

Some power but won't start without jumping

2005 Rendezvous periodically (every 3-9 months) will not start. Battery does not appear to be dead but clicks when trying to start with lights and electrical system working. Vehicle starts after being connected to jump from other vehicle. Battery checks out fine.

The battery is bad. the plates are warped or sulfated.
our shop see that all the time.just change the battery and make sure the terminals are clean and tight and the starter connection is good.

On a very intermittent basis my car won't turn over and it appears as if you have a completely dead battery but it's not. Any ideas?

Please check the following:
- Check the specific gravity of the battery.
- Perform the battery test.
- Perform the voltage drop test.
- Check the battery terminals for corrosion, sulfate deposits and looseness. (Remove the battery terminals, wash them with Luke warm water, dry them, spray wet type contact cleaner and fix them back).
- Perform alternator test with and without load.
- Check the main fuses, battery cables and connectors in the fuse and relay box under the hood.
Hope that works.

2002 Buick Rendezvous has Power to lights, horn etc, but won't start. Just get a clicking sound. Battery only 6 months old.

Have a load test done on the battery as it indicates a dead cell . Check that the battery posts and terminals are shiny clean and tight. There is no real life span on batteries and that is what warranties are for.

2004 buick rendezvous loses power after jump starting, while engine idlies battery power dies. Unable to restart again unless I jump start. Also, battery light comes on. Battery was replaced 5/28/13.

Sounds like the alternator. A jump can start you but if the alternator is bad your battery will not charge and just die after you use the power you got from the jump.

The car was running fine one day then the next day it would not start. We tried jumping it thinking the battery might be dead and it still would niot start. The car has power until we take the jumper...

Sounds like you have a toasted battery or alternator. Have you performed a load test on the battery? Have you tried to charge the battery? First remove the battery and charge it externally from the vehicle. If the battery won't hold a charge, or won't hold a charge of 12 volts, replace it. Once you have the vehicle started, test the operation of the alternator. It should be putting out at least 13 volts back to the battery to keep it charged - if it is putting less than 13 volts or more than 16 volts, replace the alternator.

Have to jump start car even though battery was checked good condition

If the car will not start with the battery as fitted, but will start fine with a jump start (which is just substituting power from another battery) then clearly the battery in the vehicle is faulty, dead or discharged. I am assuming of course that the cables are properly attached to the battery as fitted and the battery terminals are clean.

First - remove the cables from the battery terminals and give the battery terminals (and cable contacts) a good clean. Then charge the battery even if you think it is ok. Then re-connect the cables to the battery terminals. If the car will not start on that battery then it is either dead or faulty. If the car will start fine with a jump start (as you have indicated it definitely will) then you will need a new battery. If the battery fitted to the car is about 3 or more years old then you can anticipate problems with it especially if it has been fully discharged a few times or if it is one of the low price models.
(Some poor quality batteries on the market will die with 2 years of use. The warranty period on the battery is a fair indicator of the quality of battery you have. Many lower priced models are just 12 months which is the manufacturer saying to you that they have such little confidence in the longevity of the battery that they will only guarantee it will perform for 12 months.)

Cheers
Sean

Won't hold a charge

its the battery. the battery holds the charge and the alternator charges it so when you jump the car it stays running because you alternator is providing power when you shut the car off you have a bad battery that isnt holding the charge needed to start it again.
