Question about 1994 Honda Civic

Honda 94 brake switch stuck

A small plastic disk broke and came lose from the brake switch that's right on top of the pedal brake, and is now stuck open, so the brake lights are always on. Since I am not the first owner I don't know if that small plastic disk was supposed to be there in the first place or if it was an improvisation made by a previous owner.
In any case, how can I fix that? Do I need a similar disk to replace the broken one or is it just a matter of adjusting/replacing the switch? Thanks.

Brake lights stuck on how to fix that?

Look at the top of the brake pedal neck where it meets the switch. Either the switch is bad or there may be a small plastic pad where the switch meets the brake pedal. If that pad is cracked, crushed or missing...replace it(dealer item). Good luck.

I would replace the brake light switch, it is located above the brake pedal and actuated by the brake pedal arm.

BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON ALL THE TIME EVEN WHEN TRUCK IS TURNED OFF

At the top of the brake pedal, there are 2 small hard plastic fittings that fit into 2 holes. When those plastic fittings get old, they get brittle and break and then fall out. Those plastic fittings are what push against the brake light sensor. So when they fall out, there is nothing that "trips" the brake light sensor. They cost 10 bucks at nissan. Try that first. Bet that does it. It did for me !!

Why do the brake lights remain on after you turn off the car?

This is most likely a malfunctioning (stuck?) brake light switch. The switch should be at the top of the brake pedal under the steering column.

the plastic round stopper most probably broke that is were the stoplight switch sits when not depressed easy fix find a washer small enough to block the hole were the original plastic stopper was making sure the washer aligns to the brake light switch and secure washer w/ zipties hope this helps.

Brake lights stay on, is the light switch stuck? Where is it located?

The brake stop switch is located under the dash at the top of the brake pedal arm, it may be stuck or the return spring broke if it uses one some do some don't, there is a threaded adjuster and lock nut on some assemblies, you may be able to free it up with electrical contact cleaner and readjust threaded switch with locknut. First see if you can make the brake light go out by lifting up on the pedal, have an assistant look at the brake lights while you lift up on it if so the spring that retracts the brake pedal back is week or broke.

good luck

Brake lights are stuck on in 94 honda civic

Check to see if the switch, even though its new, is functioning properly. Perhaps check your wiring harness that the switch connects to to see if there is any damage like cracks or corrosion. Check back tailight wiring harness are in good condition and the bulb contacts are clean and free of corrosion and the contacts themself are clean and in good condition and getting power and grounded.
