Well, you are in the Volvo section. Did you or someone add trans fluid lately? It HAS to be the right fluid, either ATF+3 or ATF+4, it should be on the dipstick od in the manual. If you added anything else, even if it says something like, "compatible with ATF+3 or ATF+4", then drain all the fluid out, and put in the right kind. Maybe even a quart or so was put in, change it. To be sure, especially if you put a lot more in, change it again, unless you can drain the torque converter. In a MOPAR, you don't want anything other that the ATF kind, I don't care what any tech or parts counter person says. If you don't believe me, take it to a shop, and put a new one in. Many people have been mislead into using another kind of fluid, and paid for it. Anyways, I'll get off my high horse now. Hope this helps!

Oh, if the tranny fluid smells burnt, or maybe if it has not been changed in a while, change it and the filter, and see if it helps.

THERE SHOULD BE A FUSE UNDER THE HOOD FOR THE TRANSMISSION, IT MAY HAVE FAILED. ALSO CHECK THE CONNECTION ON THE SIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION. I HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR ANY COMMENTS PERTAINING TO THIS FIX. BEST OF LUCK.

My 92 dodge caravan won't go in any forward gear but park, reverse and neutral warm fine

If engine RPM goes up when you try to go forward but vehicle won't move the forward gears is not engaging in transmission. Could be caused by several things. Check transmission fluid both level and condition mostly condition. Get a white paper towel whip dipstick on paper towel and look for any gray in fluid if transmission fluid is gray you have metal shavings in fluid. Most likely need a new or rebuilt transmission.

How do I fix the transmission problem? The car is moving forward at neutral, drive and low gear, and switching to parking mode at reverse and parking. The car is not backing up at all.

Transmission may now be toast since you continued to drive it when maybe low on fluid or torque converter had failed. How long since last fluid and filter change? Ever?

When i start my car and go to put it in gear it wont move.

When you say rocky spot, what do you mean? If you mean there were rocks in the roadway, you could have put a small hole in the transmission pan which leaked all the fluid out of it. First thing I would do is check the fluid level on the transmission dipstick and look for leaks on the ground under the car.

How do i trouble shoot automatic transmission that shifts from park to reverse with the gear shift but the car will not move?

Sounds like the shift cable is off the transmission under the hood. Raise the hood and check to see if the cable is moving the linkage going into the transmission when the shift lever is moved in the car. Be sure to have park brake on.

Driving up hill in my 1994 Oldsmobile 98, my transmission suddenly stopped moving forward. reverse in my car still works just fine, what should I check?

First check the selector rod or cable to be sure it selects the right gear.
Check fluid level as well. The planetery gears may be shot!

Once vehicle is started cold it is shifted into drive it moves forward, once you stop, it wont move unless you shift into any low gear, once it starts moving in low you shift it back to drive and it...

check your trans fluid level make sure that it is ok but you have to check it hot in park on level ground in order to get an accurate reading. if fluid level is ok you may have to get the tranny serviced the clutches inside the tranny could be slipping.

95 mazda 626 automatic transmition....will not reverse

Check you transmission fluid level and if it's not your transmission, I'm thinking that your brake shoe lineing in the rear brakes may have separated and is jamming up aginst the drums when your trying to back up. Sorry can't halp you with any more, good luck and start with that and hope it help's.
