Question about 1996 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

2 Answers

I am trying to find a diagram of the hose routing for the evap canister on a 1996 S-10 with a 4.3 V6. Any chance you can steer me in the right direction. Thank You

it is located right above the differential. some one removed it and I am trying to correct it. I have the vent lines from the gas tank and the throttle body. I am guessing that the purge line connects to a solenoid valve on the frame by the differential vent but I am not sure.

is it located in the rear by the gas tank or under the hood?

There should be three connection on the canister . the bottom one usally goes to the vent valve this usually on the frame rail neear the tank the middle one goes to the purge valve near the intake manifold and the top one to the tank. the biggest to the vent small to purge and middle size to tank. hope this helps

There should be a hose diagram/white sticker under the hood either by the radiator support or by one of the shock towers.let me know if this helps you.

What hoses do I check for check engine light code Po455

DTC P0455 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) System Large Leak
The control module tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a large leak. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor signal to determine the EVAP system vacuum level. When the conditions for running are met, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve OPEN and the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve CLOSED . This allows engine vacuum to enter the EVAP system. At a calibrated time, or vacuum level, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve closed, sealing the system, and monitors the FTP sensor input in order to determine the EVAP system vacuum level. If the system is unable to achieve the calibrated vacuum level, or the vacuum level decreases too rapidly, this DTC sets.
There's more to it that just checking a hose ! Smoke testing the EVAP system is the best way to find leaks .
  1. Inspect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System for the following conditions:
  2. ?€¢
A loose, missing, or damaged service port schrader valve

    ?€¢
A loose, incorrect, missing, or damaged fuel fill cap

    ?€¢
A damaged EVAP canister purge solenoid valve

  3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Inspect the EVAP system for the following conditions:
?€¢
Any disconnected, improperly routed, kinked, or damaged EVAP pipes and hoses

?€¢
A damaged EVAP canister vent solenoid valve or EVAP canister

Your best bet is take your vehicle to a ASE certified repair shop or the dealer , where they have the tools an knowledge .

As of 2000 they put the evap canister underneath by the gas tank also purge solenoid is either mounted on or near it , they changed the design of them also they are no longer round they are kind of rectangular in shape and have clip style quick connects on the hoses.

Hi Michael: here you have two diagrams...

11_7_2011_10_28_18_pm.gif

11_7_2011_10_28_45_pm.gif

DTC P0440 code indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer fuctioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • The gas cap is not installed or working properly
  • The purge solenoid has failed
  • The canister is plugged and not working properly
Additional details could find in this links Fault Codes on Cars & Trucks or other diagrams in Cars & Trucks Vacuum Diagram.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

Dodge Durango code shows 0051: where is Sensor 1/Bank 2? Where can I find a pix or diagram? Code also showsP0700 & P0455; what do these mean? Thanks.

Bank 1 is the same side of the engine as the number one cylinder. Bank 2 is the other side of the engine. Sensor one is always before the catalytic converter. Sensor 2 is always after the catalytic converter.

P0455 is an EVAP leak check the evap hoses for cracks/leaks.

P0700 is a generic code that lets you know you need to scan the transmission control module to see what codes are stored in it.

There may be a problem with your EVAP system.Dirt/dust can get into the system causing a poor fill condition.Replacement of EVAP canister and or vent solenoid may be required.
The canister and vent solenoid are located near the gas tank on the passenger side under the vehicle.

• Fuel fill limiter vent valve stuck closed • Evaporative emission (EVAP) canister restricted • EVAP vent valve stuck closed • Hose between canister and canister vent solenoid twisted or kinked if applicable • High fuel temperature • Fuel filler hose is kinked

Want does p0440 code mean

P0440 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System

This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer functioning correctly.
