Question about 1998 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

Spacio auto 1998 not starting

This morning, after no previous problems, the car will not start. The battery seems ok as lights are showing. There is the sound of something moving quite fast but the engine is not being turned - perhaps because the starter is not engaging? Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.

Testimonial: "Started with jump leads. Apparently the battery had enough power to turn the starter but not enough to turn the engine, hence the clacking sound. Thx"

A licking noise starts when the car stops in the front dash then the battery goes dead by the next morning even with new batteries

licking? my guess, clicking?

no country.? they sell them and make them outside usa,

the car for sure needs service, the only thing active is head lamps
key off, (and horn and alarm)
1: does the car drive? ok.
2: do the head lights work and glow bright.
3: when you do drive is the CEL lamp in the dash glowing (check engine light)
any way its an electrical failure. if car drives ok...
my guess, HVAC controls messed up.

Battery seemed to be dead so I had the charging system tested and seemed ok replaced the battery. I tried to start it this morning and it's dead again.

if the charging system is good and you replaced the battery and it still goes dead then you have something on the car that is causing a draw on the system that needs to checked out.it could be something that is not turn off even a problem with one of the on board computers not powering down.this is providing the starter is not the problem.sometimes a bad starter will do nothing no noise or clicking sound because it has a bad spot in it or the starter solenoid system has a problem.

It could very well be your starter. I assume your battery is charged and we can mark that off. A starter will usually not go out instantly. It is a process. You can get it to start sometimes by hitting the starter with a hard object. Now, when you try to start the car and it doesn't, does it make a noise or not? If you get nothing, it is probably your starter. If it turns and doesn't start, it is something else.

I'm a mechanic and it sounds like you need to take it somewhere, sounds like your fuel pump gave up, your neighbor had the right idea checking for fuel pressure. unless you want to take your gas tank out of your car so you can replace the pump, you're going to need a mechanic.

My suburban suddenly would not start - no lights -

check your battery voltage for +12volts off, then have the battery load tested and see if its above 10 volts under load test,if it shows ok,then you may have a high resistance ground in the system that needs to be traced probably at the e.c.m. power because of the clicking it sounds like its going thru the self-test before it starts
