Water in the engine oil

1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with 151,000 miles. There is water in the oil. I have been advised that the heads can be removed and gaskets replaced, but the cost is $1400 and that assumes that the block is not cracked.

Are there any other solutions, or am I stuck with a $1400 repair bill for a $1500 dollar car.

Unfortunately there are no other solutions. You could also be up for extra costs depending on the cause of the failure. For instance if the gasket failed due to overheating the cooling system will need work as well or the same thing will happen to the new repair. Good Luck.

Try to describe approximately how much water was found in the oil. Did it look like coffee or did just a few drops come out of the pan. If the engine is still idling smoothly than you probably dont need a headgasket. The cause could be within the intake manifold crossover port. Also a certain amount of condensate builds up in the valve covers(cold air versus warm engine) normally and will find it's way to the bottom of the oilpan. The water will always be under the oil.never above.

How to replace a thermostat on a1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 3.1 v6

you may be able to take off the water housing by taking the front bolt out and loosening the rear, but its TOUGH to get too. A repair shop can do it for you. I replace them if I have the intake manifold off for any reason. check if intake gaskets are leaking,(common), then you need them replaced and the thermostat is easy to replace at that time.

I got litle moisture in the oil the oil looks like milke it doest get hot, but its get litle drops of water in the oil what can I do?

You may have a head gasket leaking. Head gaskets can leak two different ways. One is to the exterior. You will see it and it will be quite obvious. The other is a water leak into the cylinder. the water gets into the oil pan via that route. Do you see water or steam (looks like white smoke) issuing from your tailpipes?

That white cloud is caused by a blown head gasket, the knocking noise could be, a rod bearing, thrust bearing, somewhere in the valve train. Replace the head gasket and see if it still knocks, and change the oil and filter too. If it still knocks, than you have bigger problems.
