A common problem can be the wires to the O2 sensor, and check the connections to the Air Flow Meter. Vanagons are also prone to something called Vanagon Syndrom, which is realted to faulty ground connections. So, check ALL the chassy grounds, by the starter, transmission, battery etc. Disconnect, wire-brush apply di-electric grease and reconnect. Lastly, many of the sensors which feed signals to the ECU could have bad connections, or wires which have breaks or cracks that could lead to corrosion inside the wire increasing resistance. Oh, one more thought, the vaccum lines on Vanagon are covered with cloth and if you pull them off, you can sometimes see cracks in the rubber. The vaccum leaks can also contribute to the problem. Now I would be remiss to not warn you about changing the fuel lines on your nearly 25 year old van. The rubber on these lines have been known to breakdown and leak, leading to engine fires. There is a great web-site called that has all sorts of great informaion on these wonderful vans. I've owned my 84 Vanagon Westy for 23 years. Hope you find this helpful!

My Chevy 2500 p/u will only start and run when I pour gas in the carb...if I kill it for 2 minutes , I have to do it again to get it started ...uhg..frustrating !!! One guy told me it was a spider sumthing...

Lets start with terminology. I am assuming the truck is newer than 1987 so you would have fuel injection. No carb.
If it is a vortec engine, either a 4.3 or larger, and built after 1993, it could have central port fuel injection. That style uses one injector and a spider of lines that go to each intake port. This is inside the upper intake manifold.
Vortec engines require more fuel pressure than engines with port fuel injection or throttle body injection. So the first thing you need to do is check base fuel pressure before and after you crank the engine. You'll need a pressure gauge to do it. Normal fuel pressure at idle for a port injected engine is 35psi and 60psi for a central pfi system.

My car seems to be starving for gas

Yes you may replace your fuel filter and check for the adjustment of the carburetor float level. Try also cleaning the whole carb specially the metering orifice and other small passages.

Started motor fine a few minutes later it died and would not start again had wife crank over while i look in carb no gas spraying into carb prime with gas and it would run for a sec then die again...

When you state "carb" I assume you mean TB as it should be Throttle Body Injection, unless it was converted.
You should be able to hear the fuel pump in the tank prime for about 2 seconds when you first turn the key on. May have to get your helper to remove the gas cap and listen through the filler.
If you don't hear a buzzing sound then check the relays on the firewall. You can turn the key off, wait a couple seconds and then turn the key on and have your helper listen and feel for the relay that clicks.
Or look for the wires,
The relay will have a dark green/white from the ECM
Grey is power to the pump when the relay is enegized.
Orange is hot at all times. It comes from the ECM B fuse. Should check that as well if not done so.
Black/white is a ground.

Now most likely if your relay clicks when the key is turned on then its all fine and the fuel pump has gone out. The oil pressure switch also enegizes the pump when there is oil pressure.

It's a 305 fuel injected 1987 chev truck when i turn the key the fuel pump comes on but it won't start seems like there is no gas going to .throddle body. What could be the problem please?

Look inside the frame rail on the driver side for a fuel filter. May be a cheap fix. If it's not there, follow the fuel lines until you find it. Hopefully, it's not in the tank.

Volvo 240 dl 1987 .. fuel issue....driving down the road, car

Sounds like you need a fuel pump. There is an access panel in the floor of the car to get to the pump.

Running rich after warm up.

These vans are now very old, and the gas lines need to be replaced!!! I can't warn you enough, if you smell gas, change the lines. There have been many vanagon fires due to fuel line failure. Replacment kits can be found on-line, it isn't hard to do. The other issues can be related to the fuel tank itself, the seals on top go bad and need to be replace. You know if you have this problem when you fill it to the top and gas leaks.

But, if you haven't changed your fuel lines... do it right away.

Also, go to and look up fuel line and fire... you will see lots of posts!

I've owned my 84 Westy since 87 and changed the lines 5 years ago, many were cracked and leaking. I count my blessings that I didn't have a fire.

Engine will not

If the engine is turning over then it is either the fuel or ignition fault. When yoy tried to start after 20 minute, you must have flooded the fuel system(carbureter). Once excess fuel had evaporated the truck started.
You try putting fuel cleaner in tank or carbureter and see if it cures it.
