I had a similar problem. Is your Rodeo a standard or automatic transmission?

I'm having transmission problems on my 2002 Isuzu rodeo first gear is really slow but as soon as it gets to second and up its ok.

If that is an automatic & if the fluid has not been
changed every 3 years since it was new, then it's
done,pull it & rebuild it

Sounds like it is slipping in first gear, the fluid should
smell bad as well

When taking off from a stop feels like the transmisson is slipping.

That indicates that the clutch needs to be replaced. Check with your local mechanic and ask him for a clutch kit replacement.

Can my transmisson on my 2002 isuzu rodeo be low on fluid. It does go into gear but .But it does not go very far.Like the transmisson is slipping

I suggest bring the vehicle to a repair shop to :
a) check for leaks and ATF condition ( burnt smell ,shavings, and coolant in ATF) Any one of these conditions may indicate a rebuild.
b) if no leaks are found and ATF is in decent condition fill tranny to proper level and check for slipping.
c) if slipping doesn't happen after level is brought up to specs, DO a transmission oil filter and ATF change.(and be thankful you gotta away cheap.
d) if slipping still happens after level has been topped off
they(repair shop) will either "Stall Test it or pressure check the transmission " Good luck

How to fill transmission fluid on my 1998 Isuzu Rodeo

there is a drain plug on the bottom of the pan, in the center of that plug is a smaller plug, warm the trans, remove the smaller plug and get a pump for gear oil from the parts store and pump transmisson fluid in to the small plug opening untill it runs back out...it's full.

My rodeo is stuck in gear

You will need to get the clutch hydraulic system repaired before the clutch can be successfully disengaged.
Meanwhile, try rocking the vehicle backward/forward while shifting gearlever out of gear to get it into neutral.

1st gear slipping at start. reverse and other gears fine. shifts between gears fine. if i start off slow it wont slip. 01 rodeo 4 cyl. also eng light has been on for 1 yr. has 120000 miles.

Have you checked the trani fluid ?
It could be slipping just enough to notice in 1st gear beause that is the most resistance..
A slip is a slip..
Or it could be that the bands are warn in only first gear - wich would cause damage before long..
Some shops give free estimates..

1996 saturn sl1 transmission slips in 3 and 4 gears.

The fluid and speed sensor did not really do anything to solve your slipping problem. If it slipped before it could be that there are chips/breaks in the teeth on the gears or it could be that the clutch is not connecting when it gets into higher gears. May need a new tranny or clutch.
