Depending upon the company that issues the warranty, and the actual coverage (what the contract says, not what the salesman tells you it says), generally, if you have one large failure (like a transmission) the cost of the warranty is worthwhile, as virtually every failure after that is "gravy". One important thing to remember is that in service date is the original date the car was bought by the first owner, not when you bought it. Also, keep meticulous service records if you do not and you have a major failure they will nearly automatically deny the claim.
There are many good warranty companies out there but there are lots of bad ones also. (I know because I once worked for most of them as an inspector) Dealers have an extensive financial entanglement with the companies they sell for and will not ever tell you how good or bad they are. Do some independent research into the companies and find out who backs them (usually large banking or financial institutions...pick ones backed by ones with good reputations only....not the "bank of ishkabibble...If you never heard of them they aren't a good reliable institution.

I have a 2007 Touareg V10 TDI with 49,500 miles on it. The factory warranty runs out at 50,000 miles. What are peoples experiences with this particular year and engine relative to whether it would be...

Hello,
There is no dispute to the fact that the volkswagen touareg is a very good SUV in terms of durability and comfort, and its a very good value for your money.I own a 2007 model of this car and believe me i have not had any regret for buying this car, after 2yrs.
What can be deduced from consumers discussion in their forum in relativity to the engine of the V10 is that its recommended to purchase an extended warranty to cover the next 50,000 miles for this SUV and it will really be a great value for your money, because some minor issues might come up in the nearest future with regards to the pluggs, this requires the expertise of qualified touareg engineers.

So i will suggest you buy an extended warranty to be on the safe side so you won't have any cause to regret in the nearest future.

Thanks for using fixya.

Volvo s60 engine idles erratically

Likely the ETD is wearing. 2001- 2003 ETDs on this model have an extended warranty 10 years / 200K miles on this part by Volvo. There is a safety recall software upgrade that should be done without cost at a Volvo Dealer. This often helps a lot. (Software "fix" around a poor electro-mechcanical design.) Dealer will charge a diagnostic fee but all repairs related to the ETD should be covered parts and labor if that is problem. Check with your dealer about coverage on your specific vehicle. You should have gotten letters about the recall. Get the free safety software upgrade now!!

I have a 2001 Grand Jeep Cherokee w/over 100K miles. Am I better off trying to get some form of extended warranty, or just have whatever they recommend for 100K miles (per owners manual). The warranties...

I think extende warranty is just a precaution and it might not be so much useful if you are mainting it properly with specified service at specified miles...So keep driving and do the specified services when it reaches specified miles as per owners manual..

I have a 2001 S60. Have a gas leak comming for somewhere on top of the gas tank. It leaks down from the top.Is there an access panel inside the car or trunk so i might be able to get to the top of the tank...

Common problem with this series and model. Volvo extended the warranty for this fuel pump to 150K miles. Not a "recall" but the the warranty was one way around it for them. Contact your dealer and see if your specific model is covered. They will charge a diagnostic fee but if the problem is the pump, there will be no charge for parts and replacement. It is a $600+ dollar dealer repair otherwise.

Gas tank leaking

It is probably your fuel pump. I have the same car, and smelled gas for a while, even had trouble starting car when I was low on gas. Volvo has an extended warranty for this part, so it was replaced for free at a dealership.

2004 Volvo S40 Noise and check engine light. Any ideas?

If the noise is a whistling or screeching type noise it means the breather assembly (integrated in the oil filter housing) has gone bad, its part of the PCV system. Good news is they are on an extended warranty now, I believe 10 years, 100K miles. Take it to the dealer for a free fix :)

Horsecrap...go to an independent transmission dealer after you call the extended warranty folks and complain!
I can count the number of Honda transmissions that go bad before 300,000 miles on one hand.
