Question about Mercedes-Benz SLK350

2 Answers

I have a 2006 mercedes slk 250. Occasionaly, but with more and more frequency, when I try to put the top down it goes through about 7 seconds of the process and then the windows start going up and down like the car is possesed. Needless to say the roof doesn't retract any farther than the tunk lid going up and staying there. Sometimes i'll even have a simliar problem when i'm trying to put the top up. When i took it to the dealership it happened to be working that day so they had no answer!

is there anyway I can fix this without replacing a module or something? It's one of those things that if I turn off the car and try again it will eventually work. could it be a connection?

Sort of. I was hoping it was something simple I could fix myself, but I guess i can't. I probably got the right answer though.

Had something similar occur on my windows, not the hood. It was found later that corrosion from water had got into the control unit via the button box. sometimes windows would rocket up and down, or be maddeningly slow to rise as time went on, Fortunately the windows closed, before totally giving up.

I'd Had it investigated twice and no problem could be found either as it all worked when in the repair shop ( as they do!). The electrical guy just didnt bother to open the control pad to see if there was corrosion or rust!

Eventually when it failoed completely someone decided it should be opened and then the problem was revealed. 6 months of looking at it whithout openoing it up...

You may need to replace the chassis control module, that is usually located under the dash.
the module is connected to ECU on one side , and to chassis devices (roof, windows etc.).

I've just purchased a 2008 SLK 200. Does anyone know how to put the rear quarter windows up whilst top down.

I have a CLK 2001 and my rear window buttons just work normally when the roof is down. I can even raise a rear window without raising the front one.

My roof on my mercedes slk goes up ok but the windows stay down and the swich flashes

The micro switches for the hard top latches are bad and not sending a closed signal to the control module. When they stop working the control module doesn't know the top is closed so it doesn't raise the windows. Those micro switches are known to go bad. I have changed quite a few of them before.

How can i reprogram a mercedes slk r170 key fob to my car

If it is a new key or replacement only the dealer can do it. if it is one of the original keys that stopped working then place it in the ignition and press the lock button 5 times in about 5 seconds, then press and hold down the unlock button. Withdraw the key and try it.

Just but an Mercedez SLK 230 Kompressor 1999 and the hard top will not go down.

First check that you have oil on the hydraulic pump that it is inside the trunk on the rear right fender the oil should be between the marks. If thats ok check when you put the ignition on if the switch that operates the roof is on, should be off, on means that something is wrong, if blinks 6 times one of the 5 or 7 switchs are not closed, check one by one. check the two that close the trunk at the middle, the cover, the trunk limit switch, the trunk switch

try holding the lock and unlock button down for a few seconds at the same time. That is how most work.

1999 slk Mercedes Hydralic leak

The pumps rarely need replacing.

SLK top leaks are almost always caused by one (or more) of three hydraulic cylinders in a system of five cylinders. These three are the small latch cylinder located under the headliner, and the two larger cylinders that raise and lower the top located just behind both seats. The rod seals in all three are made using a proprietary material that is designed to break down over time. The other two cylinders in the system that raise and lower the trunk almost never go bad. This is because they are designed using the time tested Nitrile rubber O-rings, not the Novathan material that are in the other three.

Also, the SLK hardtop mechanical pivot points are notorious for needing to be greased every couple of years. When they stick, it seams as the pump does not have enough power to raise the top. Some times the pump gets blamed for symptoms that pertain to other problems.
