Question about 1992 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

Bent frame - I'm a total newbie when it comes to fixing cars, I don't even know how to change the oil. I was in an accident in my 1992 Toyota Corolla, no one was injured. The mechanic I took it to said it had a bent frame. Is it unsafe to drive with a bent frame?

Yes, this is a unsafe condition that will cause your handling to be unpredictable, and depenpending on how bad will make the tires wear fast. The best thing to do would take it to a body shop and see what they would charge to straiten it back out.

Frames can be straightened, so a bent frame alone does not total the car. Will the insurance company pay?

I have a 2000 volkswagen beetle that was wrecked and it has a bent frame on the front passanger side what would it cost me to have the frame straighten and it fixed or is it even worth fixing?

if the frame is bent, then there is more stuff bent, it's better to have a body shop check it out, there is always more damage then you can see, , something that old, just might be a total

I have a bent rear passenger side tire due to an accident, how do I fix it?

sounds like a hard hit ur problems can be an accumulation of one or more of the following bent rim --,bent and or broken hub,-- spindle bent or broken, shock, strut bent,broken--unibody [frame]bent ---u will have to remove wheel and look at the parts and see which is damaged also open trunk and look at the floor for bends and wrinkles also look at rear from back and look at the body for straightness unless u have a straightener for the unibody to fix body and or frame should be done by shop that is trained in repairs r the parts which ever part or parts need to be replaced they are all bolt in only worry would be replacing the strut if ur chevy came with that option most had a shock

You should strongly suggest that they fix it. You have a good arguement if the oil change sticker in the window is theirs and the mileage is within reason and you have a reciept. If they will not fix it then keep asking to speak to that person's boss until you're at the top or they concede. If the evidence is there they should fix it and you should make them if they don't. Be respectful and keep you're cool. "You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar".

I want to change my oil but cant find the oil drain-where is it located?

I don't even know how anyone could not find any
engine oil drain plug!

All oil drain plugs are at basically the bottom of the oil pan

They may be at the side ,the rear or on the deepest or
lowest part of the oil pan

Your looking for a bolt head 9/16",14,15, or 16mm,
depending on the vehicle

Is a 1992 prelude a good reliable car

Yes.

It's not uncommon to see a lot of older model Honda still on the road. They'll often be either rusty or have after-market body parts because they out last the body put on them though that takes a long time too.

I say if you can get your hands on it and it doesn't have a bent frame from an accident then get it!

If there is a new engine as they claim, they spent at least 1,500-2K on that alone so you have to ask yourself, why are they selling it for 4K?I would at least have a shop inspect it or do a carfax or both even if the shop says good.1 thing that is hard to find unless you know exactly what to look for is frame damage.Yes,they do have frame pullers to fix it,but only to a certain degree. If the frame was bent and pulled out,you will probably have issues with front end alignment after tire replacement, maybe shaking at high speed, suspension wear and tear,to name a few.A carfax requires the VIN and costs money, but is worth peace of mind.If that car was ever in an accident, carfax tells you when and what what was repaired. Also, with a bent frame the car will never have any resell value and a dealer will not even take it on trade-in.Good luck! If he knows a lot about cars, he should know that you dont/cant fix a Bent Rod. Unless its a real nice car (flooded?) its not any more, its not worth fixing the engine. You need a new engine, or a used engine. .

Yes, if it didn't do it before the accident but now it is then call your insurance co. and let them know it isn't fixed and the symptoms. It could be anything. A bent steering component, warped rim, etc.

I wont to change the oil pan on my 1992 eb ford

you probably wont like this but here we go
place a frame of some kind on the engine so as to hold the engine up, then put the car very high on body stands, you don't even have to undo your hoses. then from underneath remove your k member, change your sump put it all back, this is how your ford dealer would do it. the only other option is totally removing the engine
