Question about 1998 Volvo S70

1 Answer

Driver side door makes a clicking sound and does not feel like the other doors when you open it. Volvo service said I need to take it to a body shop, that they don't repair this problem. They said it is typical on older cars. What should that cost to fix?

I can't tell you the cost, but it shouldn't be to bad. What normally wears out is the door hinge pins or the bit of plastic that goes on the catch. From the rattling sound I'd say the plastic. Go out and open the door and look at the round catch and compare it to the other side, also while you have the door open see if you can lift up on it and feel play, compare to other side also.

Power door locks will not lock except manually

First of all, check ACC fuse in the driver side junction box. The central controller for power door locks is the body ECU. From your description it may be working only partially. Can the doors be locked using a key? If so, this would indicate the actual locking mechanism is OK. Do the front door lock control switches lock the doors?

1993 Dodge dakota. The power door lock drive side

It sounds like a broken wire inside the weather boot between the door and the body. The wire is touching together and is making contact when the door is in the open position, and the wire is separating when the door is closed and then it is loosing the connection.

You will need to repair the wires inside the weather boot between the drivers side door and the body, and the wire should also be soldered to make the connection solid and long lasting.

I hope that this information is of any help to you, and feel free to ask for any further advice, or assistance with any procedures..

Driver side door making a popping noise when opening or closing. Lubed the hinge but it kind of sounds like it's coming from inside the panel

Check spacing between the front of the door and the
fender. The door could be pinching the fender when you open and close it. Hope this helps.

Handle wont open driver door from indside this morning on my 02

Volvo uses electrical locking system. Sounds like some microswitch is about to fail. Another probable cause can be malfunctioning anti-theft device which bolts the doors so, that they cannot be opened from the inside. Get it checked.

Open door position hold latch snaps real loud opening and closing the door

The hinge has most likely broken loose from the door frame. Look at the main body where the slider bar attaches to the body from the door. It is common for the hinge to break loose. It will need to be spot welded back into place to stop the clicking noise. Usualy two clicks when the door opens and then when it closes.

Volvo V70 Driver Door Hinge

Make sure the bolts for the slider are tight, the two on the door and the one on the body. If these are OK, then pull back the rubber boot on the body and if you see the metal is broken, then you need to have a body shop repair the broken spot welds. If the metal looks OK, then the door stay (slider) will need to be replaced.

Good Luck!
