I am trying to change out a timing belt on a 1998 ford contour for the first time ever in my life...is there any site that will give me a illustration drawing on how to do this

Recommend a 1996 Ford Contour Chilton's repair book. Available a most auto parts stores. It will give you step by step directions for changing your timing belt if you need it and a lot more. about $19-$25.

Replaced timing belt and crank sensor started ran fine shut it off and now it won't start.


try to see that you have adjusted the timing properly according to the mark made on timing system & also try to see that the belt is not fasten too hard so that it can damage the belt tensional pulley & bearing too fasten belt can damage the bearing & tensional life hope for it that you get help out of it

Check your timing belt by carefully removing the timing belt pulley cover to the left of the valve cover. The valve cover houses the spark plugs. You should be able to flash a flashlight down and see your timing belt. Most likely, you have a timing belt going, or a shaving stuck in your VCT solenoid. I'm guessing the belt is worn and has slipped a tooth or two. I would take caution driving it as it's been disputed that it could be an interference engine, and you could do serious damage to your vehicle.
