    Have you checked the harness plug on the vehicle for power with a test light? Is this a camper trailer? The brake lights and the turn signals work on the same element in the light bulbs. The running lights are the other element. You need to make sure that there is power at the plug.

Hello. The problem is one of three things, all easily fixable. First of all go to any auto parts store and get an aerosol can of electrical connection spray. then spray all of your connections. as you are doing that look for loose connections and also corrosion. tighten loose connections and sand off any corrosion and then coat with the connector spray. Pay particular attention to the ground wire connection where the the ground wire is bolted to the frame. Enjoy your trip.

Most likely the brown wire from the trailer connector is connected to a constant battery voltage source, and it should be connected to the vehicle running light circuit, however someone might have wired the trailer connector up that way on purpose so that the trailer does not draw power from the vehicle running lights and possibly damage the vehicle running light circuit. (Dodge/Chrysler vehicles do have delicate lighting systems) Here are some images to help assist you, and the 4 way connector is the same as the 5 way connector just without the blue wire for the trailer brakes.

Utility trailer wiring to 1998 Dodge Carivan

Trailer end; Red=Brake
Brown=Running lights
Yellow=Left
Green=Right
White=Ground
You will need a turn and brake signal box IF, you have different bulbs for brake and turn lamps. If the brake and turn bulbs are one(red)lens than no box will be required. Thanks, Dana

2003 Chevy HD trailer wiring problem

I have the exact same issue. I have also tested my trailer on other vehicles and it works fine. I even purchased a light up tester and found the problem at the harness. It seems like a bad ground to me but I can't seem to find one.

The trailer lights have a common brake/turn wire while the truck has seperate turn and brake lights. I think the problem lies with the device that marries the two for the trailer wiring but I don't know where to find it?

I had the same problem on 06 ram, the problem is one of the controll modules under the fuse panel under the hood on the drivers side. My trailer mechanic told me this was a common problem and dodge will only charge about 700 dollars to replace it. he solved my problem by installing a converter on the wires to the tail lights of the truck then running down to the trailer plug. it was most likely caused by a short in the trailer and dodge in their infinate wisdom failed to put a fuse between the trailer and control module. and by the way even though this is a manufacturing defect they will not warranty the module. hope this helps.

If you have amber signal lights & red brake lights, it's 2 separate circuits. You'll need to buy a small converter that you wire into harness to correct that. Not expensive, try autoparts store or RV/trailer sales, should have them.

Pass. side trailer turn and brake lights out 1999 ford explorer

if your vehicle lights are working all the fuses will be good. follow the cable from the towing socket on your vehicle , it will most likely go behind one of the rear lights to connect into your cars system,
check your tester where the cables join and you should find the problem. hope this helps.
