SOURCE: 87 samuria tansfercase problem

It doesnt need rebuilding. The shifter sheet that the gear shifter sits on is worn out or not even there which allows the shifter not to operate properly.

You can order a poly one from vendors like Lowrangeoffroad, Trail Tough, Petroworks, and some others.

SOURCE: 05 Durango transfer case will not engage, stuck in neutral

I had this happen to me today and found that it was a simple linkage problem.

If the 4WD-Neutral-2WD stick on the floor console moves freely try crawling under the vehical and make sure that the shift linkage is attached to the transmission. On mine I found a cotter pin had broken and the shift lever was not staying connected.

Make sure the shifter on the steering colum is in neutral and engine off when making these repairs.

Good luck

SOURCE: how do you put a 2001 dodge durango in neutral to

If your going to put the front wheels on a dolly then it won't matter whether or not the front end is in neutral,if the rear is going to be lifted then it is a good idea to remove the drive shaft, this will keep the transmission from turning.

Transfer case stuck in neutral

something you may want to try to get transfer case into hi gear
.while driving forward, coast at appx 10 mph and place your transmission in neutral while still coasting at 10 mph then try shifting your transfer case to hi .this is a technique used on a lot of different vehicles to get the transfer case to shift. If it shifts into hi range then place your transmission into drive while coasting and should then be where you want.it technique also works to place vehicle into low from hi on a lot of vehicles.hope this helps solve your problem. chris

My 95' suburban is stuck in neutral and I cannot get it to shift into drive.

sounds like the transfer case has an internal problem. Try pushing the vehicle a few feet to see if it pops back so you can shift it. if this works
rebuild the transfer case before you get stranded somewhere.

Could be either, a transmission problem or transfer case problem.
Someone will probably have to remove the transfer case to find out.
The torque converter, pump, valve body, or various parts in the transmission could have failed. The transfer case could be stuck between 2wd and 4wd or could have a broken gear.

The transfer case on my 1998 ford explorer will not come out of 4 low. The switch is not allowing it to change to 4 high or automatic. I was wondering if there is any way to find a scematic diagram of the...

it s a long shot, but put the explorer on jack stands start engine, put in neutral GENTLy tap on shift gear on transfer case while someone is pushing handle into high. tap gas to change RPM s while working it. put into drive and do the same but put transfer case into neutral, if goes into neutral stop and put transmission into neutral than put transfer case into high. keep in mind if it works don t take it out, or you will be doing all this again. have had shift cables break have someone shift while you try to change lever position. Might be worth having it checked , transfer case is not a transmission. senser, computer, fuses, solenoid relays are just some easy fixes for this problem..

Four wheel drive stuck in neutral. Won't go into 2high or back to 4 wheel drive. Transfer case was replaced. Its a 2000 Jimmy.

If you have the push buttons on the dash board you must follow the instructions in your owners manual to return the transfer case to 2wd from neutral. I don't remember for sure but I think you must have the transmission in neutral, foot on brake, press and hold both 2wd and 4wdlow buttons at same time. My father who lives 45 miles from me has the Jimmy, I don't. Hope this helps, Jim

1991 Chevy K1500 4wd transmission stuck

More than likely the trans is not stuck in neutral, it could possibly be low on fluid. That is the first thing I would check. If it is full then try putting the transfer case into 4X4 high and then low and see if it will move. If it does after you do this, then the problem would be inside of the transfer case. If it does not move in any gear it would more than likely be a internal failure of the trans.
