My tail lights aren't working on my 2000 sebring

Hello Gay Woodley...

Car batteries are dangerous... (I'd rather douse myself in gasoline & play with matches than work on a battery)

but:

Several things need to be done to lay the groundwork for GOOD TROUBLE SHOOTING:

Modern cars (yours) can act pretty squirrely (alarm trouble) if the battery (or ground) connections are dirty, oxidized and/or wet... Going further into "a sophisticated" investigation without at least a look is pointless... and disconnecting the battery (while messing with your radio (might regain a level of sanity for your VARIOUS CONTROL UNITS/MODULES (ENGINE, BODY))... but I seriously doubt your tail-lights are related
*** (
hard wiring fault... check grounds too)).

White lithium grease can reasonably "PROTECT" an electrical connection... but if it is heavily corroded or oxidized... it must be carefully cleaned (it can be quite caustic immediately at the battery and EXTREME CAUTION is warranted (eye protection, gloves & lots of fresh water (if things go terribly/explosively wrong (to save skin & eyes))).

***That (battery check) being done... you will need YOUR vehicle SCHEMATICS and a volt/ohm meter (see below) to find if your OPEN.

ALTHOUGH it is best to BUY your own... Your schematic (wiring) diagrams are available (free) from BBB Industries (also "some" at autozone.com... not quite as comprehensive... (registration required at both)).

BBB Industries includes some quite excellent Technical service bulletins (TSBs).

Hope this helps!

no, blow fuse. if one fuse is hot and other side not, fuse blew.

did you replace the stater or alternator with the battery connected.
yes, boom. you did this.
any $10 walfart meter does this work..
easy peasy.

alldata.com has the main boxes, schematics. look there.
see how it all feeds (a schematic)

I changed the battery in my E-mu sp 12 and the display went out and the back of the unit was getting very hot If someone can lead me to a schematic on line that would be helpful.

Possible you connected the polarity backwards and now the circuits are damaged? The dealerships parts department should have schematics available.

I need a ground schematic for a 1999 nissan maxima

Hi James,

Ground (-12 volt side of the battery) is the entire metallic parts of the car body / frame / chassis. Auto schematics only show non-grounded (+12 volt side of the battery, data and signal) circuits. This is done to reduce clutter and make it easier to read the schematics.

You will find -12V or ground on nearly all metal body / frame / chassis parts of the vehicle. To be sure you are on ground, stretch a wire from the + post of the battery to a test light or the (+) jack or probe of a meter capable of reading at least 12 VDC and touch the the probe connected to the (-) jack to the target grounded panel. If it is ground, you should read 12 volts on the meter - or in the case of the test light - a brightly illuminated lamp. A meter is the preferred device as most people can not tell the difference between a light connected to 12V vs one connected to 10V. The meter assures you of a solidly connected grounded part.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Battery runs down if car not usrd regularly

Make sure your wires to the battery are connected good. Make sure your battery is good. Your alternator may be going bad. Here is a simple way to check it. Start the car and then take the hot side battery terminal off. If it dies instantly, your alternator is bad. If it stays started, you need to check the battery wires with a wiring schematic. If you need anything else, contact me at anytime. I am here to help. Thank you for choosing FixYa.

Electric windows and central locking wont work first thing until car has been drove for a while A4 tdi audi 2001

First check the battery voltage when the windows and door locks will not work (before driving) Will they function if you connect a battery charger? (Low battery voltage) This condition may be related to the security system (if installed) or poor electrical connection to the battery bus that is overcome when the alternator is charging.Be sure to check for 12V connection to the ECM and security Module (if installed)
You will probally need a schematic to check the wireing, Start with the 12v to the windows switches and discover where the power is missing. It will probally be common to the lock problem at some point.
Good Luck

Charging system short

1.The electrical schematics are in section 12 of the Haynes repair manual for cherokees 1984 through 2001 .
2. With all accessories turned off disconnect -ve battery terminal from the battery (wear your safety glasses at all times in the vicinity of the battery ) .
3. Solder 2 leads to a 12V light bulb and connect the leads as follows : 1 to the -ve battery terminal , the other to the loose -ve cable you disconnected in step 2.
4. If the bulbs glows , start removing , then replacing your fuses one at a time while noting which fuse made the bulb glow dimmer . The corresponding accessory is draining your battery .
cheers
