How to replace the brake light switch located near the brake pedal for voyager 1993

I am having problem in removing the brake light switch. The metal fixture that houses the brake switch is secured by a nut against a metal plate and the space is practically inaccessable. The regular socket does not work. Any thoughts? This is for 1993 Voyager.

The switch usually comes out with a couple small bolts depending on how Chrysler did it. If you look at the top of the peda (you will need to have you head on the floor to do this) you will see a switch at the very top of the pedal (very small). It will have a wire attached to it. Unplug the wire and unbolt/unscrew the switch. It should take 5 min or less.

Hi there,

Try spraying the brake light switch with WD-40 or petrol first. If that doesn't fix the situation, then:

. Remove the under-dash panel.
. Locate the switch near the top of the brake pedal and disconnect the wiring harness.
. Remove the switch retaining pin and the white nylon washer from the brake pedal pin, then slide the brake light switch and pushrod off far enough for the outer hole of the switch to clear the pin.
. Slide the switch down to remove it.

Good Luck!!

Thanks

96 plymouth grand voyager is stuck on park what does that mean?

Your problem might be with the brake light switch. This switch is under the brake pedal, and when the pedal is pressed, it lets you shift your van out of park. This switch also activates the brake lights when you press the brake pedal. Try checking if your brake lights work. These switches are inexpensive, and very easy to replace.

Chances are the brake switch has failed. The switch is located at the brake pedal in the front or behind the pedal arm. You will have to be on your back looking in order to see it. There will be a two wire switch. When the brake pedal is depressed the contacts on the switch open (or close depending on how the switch is placed) that in turn illuminates the brake lights. Easy to check with a 12 volt test light. One of the wires at the connector will be the power wire, with the test light grounded, probe one of the wires - the power wire should light the test light up. If neither wire light the test light then you have an open on the power circuit. You will need a wiring diagram to find out which wire is the power wire and trace it back until you find the open. If the switch is getting power and the brake lights are not illuminating,, the switch is bad and will have to be replaced. A fairly inexpensive part and fairly easy to replace. If you have little or no mechanical experience you may need to get a technician to replace it. The replacement switch may come with instructions on how to replace it. Hope this helps.
