Question about 1995 Honda Accord

Open Question

4 clinder engine. Auto transmission, Speedometer stopped working, green box around the gear indicator flashes. Would the Vehicle Speed Sensor be the culprit? After a while the check engine comes on, the engine runs a little rougher. It resets once the engine is shut off and turned back on.

Speedo wire location at dash or gear box auto

Most all vehicle have a VSS - vehicle speed sensor and it is a input to the PCM/ECM /TCM a control module ! The VSS is located on the out side of the transmission case . The speed info is sent to the instrument cluster by way of a serial data network . C.A.N. or something similar . How to Diagnose Controller Area Network CAN If your speedometer isn't working and the vehicle drives ok and the transmission shifts good it's probably the speedometer gauge that is bad .

Does the tata indica gls 2006 model have a speedometer cable or a speedometer sensor? If it does have a sensor, where would I find it in the engine?

talk with a service dealer for this
if it is EFI controlled (ECM) the speedo will work off the output shaft of the transmission ( final drive rpms equate to road speed ) and if auto will be a vehicle speed sensor or if manual around the extension housing of the gear box
again talk with a service center for exact details

Hey Todd I have a 2005 5.7 dodge magnum and it won't change gears as i speed up while driving also speedometer stopped working

EASY ONE.... Your VSS (Vehicle SPEED SENSOR) stopped working and it is this Sensor that gives the PCM/ECM the information to change gears. Once you change your VSS, and get it working, the Transmission will start working again...

I am Assuming that the Transmission stopped working at the same time the Speedometer did? Is that right?

If it is, then this is a easy fix. 1 bolt and one Wire Connector and DONE....

4th gear indicator light on dash board flashes, vehicle drive fine. and speedometer works off and on.

shift indicator flashing lamp is an indication that your transmission has issues, due to your speedometer not functioning properly the first guess is that your speed sensor is failing, but that is just a guess. first thing to do is to get your car computer system scanned for failure codes, there should be one for your transmission out put speed sensor, before changing any sensor make sure you test the sensor to verify its failure. get codes and re-post with results if any more help needed

I have reverse and first gear

I'm guessing you don't have any other gears? If your speedometer doesn't work, then you need to replace the vehicle speed sensor (VSS), if the speedometer does work, then you probably need to replace the turbine speed sensor (TSS). The transmission can't shift if it doesn't know how fast the vehicle or transmission is moving. Since you didn't way what model and engine you have I can't tell you where the VSS or TSS is located. You can buy these sensors at a local auto part store, such as Auto Zone, and they can give you the specific location of the sensors on the transmission.

Speedometer is not workin

Get the VSS checked. The most common problems is the vehicle speed signal sensor, as a result of which the speedometer stops working. If you notice problems in gear transmission or find the 'check engine' light on, it is because of a faulty speed signal sensor.Get it checked.

Will not shift out of 1st gear, auto trans

If the speedometer doesn't work, then it is your VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and if the speedometer does work then it is your TSS (turbine speed sensor). If the computer doesn't know both the vehicle and transmission speeds, it won't shift out of 1st gear.

My speed odometer stopped working and it won't shift out of first gear, is it the speed sensor, or what?

Hi,
The reason the speedometer stopped working would be the speed sensor.
Sounds like the vehicle speed sensor is not working or the gear on it is stripped. If you look at the rear housing of the transmission, you will see a black plastic sensor protruding from it with a two wire connector and the speedometer cable attached to it. The sensor might be coming apart or the gear that is driven off the output shaft is stripped. The speed sensor, along with the governor, tells the transmission when to shift. You can remove the sensor by simply taking out the bolt that holds it in. A small bracket around the sensor is secured by this bolt. Carefully look at the nylon gear to see if it is worn through the middle.
