my chevy full size van 5.7 litre has fuel coming from the fuel pump all the way to the engine but wont run. It will run if i put gas into the intake manualy. I put new relay and changed filter. fuel pump is working
I believe on a 1987 chevy van the heater core should be under the black plastic cover on the firewall on the left hand side as you are standing in front of the van.
I believe you can also get to it under the passenger side dash.
It is NOT fun. Unless you are a seasoned mechanic, I would not attempt it.
Otherwise stop by your local auto center, and get a HAYNES manual, they will be able to show how to.
If you can get at or borrow a meter, with the engine off, start at the battery, and you should get 12 to 13 volts DC or so...then follow itto the cables, and then at the end of the cables, to see if you loose voltage. It's cheaper than just replacing parts, that may be fine.
Best do a fuel pressure test. Should have chg. fuel filter from the get go. The only other filter is on the end of the fuel pump in tank. Bad gas and dirty gas will plug up fuel filter, hense burn pump up.
I would suggest replacing the starter. Sounds like it is froze up - in the event that you have a solonoid on the firewall, replace that first, and if the problem persists, proceed to replacing the starter.
I hope this is useful to you getting your van started again.
I just had the same problem. If it is a regular van try under the driver seat in a plastic box. If it is a conversion van try in a pannel just behind driver seat on side of van wall behind a pannel that looks like a vent.
