I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan and when I start the van and turn on the AC a belt starts squeaking and the van runs rough with a rattling noise under passanger side of the hood. Sometimes this causes the van...

did this occour suddenly? if you can get someone to turn the A/C on briefly while your looking under the bonnet and look at the A/C pump. if you dont know what one it is wait untill they turn it on and find which pulley stops turning. because it sounds to me like your A/C pump has seized and if it engages and the pulley stops turning that would confirm it. once you know you can still drive it just dont turn the A/C on untill you get the compresser replaced

Consistent belt squelling replaced belts alternator &a/c compressors&timingbelt&tensioner

sounds as if you have a pulley/accessory that is out of alignment-most likely either ac or alternator- it takes very little to make it noisy.either cleaning mount for out of alignment accessory or washers to move forward can cure it sometimes

I have a 2005 kia spectra and when i turn the ac on it is slipping real bad, what is it? I think it is the air conditioning clutch but i dont know for sure! it stops making the noise when i turn the ac off...

I had this problem, the belt was worn out and the bearings in the AC pulley are going bad. Removed the belt to the AC and the problem went away, no AC until I get the replacement.

1992 Pickup: loud squelling sound under hood when started...

Sounds like a loose belt.

There are a few things that can cause a belt to slip like that.

The belt could be not tightened all the way. If it uses a sepentine belt with a tensioner, the tensioner could be bad. If it is not a serpentine belt, then you will have multiple belts and the one that is making the noise can be loose. Use something to pry it tight and tighten down the bolts holding the component th belt goes to.

It can also be a bad pulley. Pulleys have bearings inside of them, at times the bearings will go out and make the pulley hard to turn. You can usually find this easily by taking the belt off and turning the pulley with your hand. If it is hard to turn or makes a grinding noise when turned...it is bad and needs to be replaced.

Old belts can also cause this along with a belt that is wet. There is a spray on Belt Dressing that helps get rid of noisy belts, but I consider that a bandaid to a bigger problem.

My air conditioning unit only blows hot air

I believe you have a leak in your AC system. You will need to do a leak test, stop the leak and refill your system with refrigerant. You can buy the items to do this repair at most automotive stores. (you may not have a leak, you might just have to recharge the system with new refrigerant)

AC shuts down

Sounds like a FAN BLOWER problem. Under R/R hood. A/C compressor will continue to click on and off even if blower is inop. Hope this helps
