2005 Mercury Grand Marquis brake/running lights not working

I have a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis and am having problems with the brake/running lights, as well as the dashboard light. I shorted out the turn signal fuse a few days ago and replaced that, and now the turn signals work. However, the brake/running lights never come on for the main rear lights. The brake light DOES come on, however, on the center window light. The hazard lights also work. The dashboard light is also out (the one that lights up everything so you can see the panel at night...not the indicator lights...those still work), which I've read is an indicator that your brake/running lights are out.

I have tested all the fuses in the car, both under the steering wheel and under the hood, and all of them work. I have looked at the brake light bulbs and they all look fine.

Is there another fuse, or relay, that I should be looking for, or anything else that could be causing this problem? I hope that I've been clear with my problem, if not, please let me know.Thank you.

I have a 2005 Mercury Marquis but the brake lights won't go on. I have turn signals, but no brake lights. I don't think it is a fuse.

look under by your brake pedal, there is a switch that has two wires to it, make sure plug has not been knocked off, if it is intact, check to see that one of the two wires have power,
if you have power, fuses are ok, jump the two wires and check to see if your brake light are on!
if they now work, you need a brake switch,
if you do not have power then you need to check your fuses..

i have seen many times that the connector gets bumped and makes a poor connection

good luck and hope this helps

Turn signals don't flash when braking 99 grand marquis

Check all earth wires on all lights.
most lights in cars run in series so if u loose one you loose the other mainly caused by bad earth on globe holders or corrosion where bulb sits.
little sand paper goes a long way.
