Hello and Welcome to Fixya!

In order to solve the problem you have to spend some time with the vehicle inspecting it in details. Following are some common occuring problems that your vehicle might be facing:

Check that the common ground wire is properly grounded.

There might be some problem with the body control module that is mostly located under the the passenger seat.

Make sure that all the fuses in the fuse block are properly connected and are in working condition.

Try to check all of the above stated problems one by one. Mostly it is the loose ground or the 'fuses' that are causing such problems.

Kindly do rate me if I'm helpful,
Regards.

Tip

Instrument panel goes dead

If the instrument panel on your Chrysler, Dodge, or Plymouth minivan goes dead intermittently, the problem is probably that the solder joints on the pins for the main connector have broken. You need to pull the instrument panel and resolder all the pins on the connector.

This Seems Indicative Of a Poor Connection AT The CLUSTER Or A Junction Connecter Close to the Cluster. This is Assuming you Have Ruled OUT ALL ABS COMPONENTS, LOOK at These VERY CLOSLY Because of the Small Volts These Wires Carry , the SMALLEST DEFECT WILL Cause this Type of Symptom that you have given. Please try all of the Above, I feel Confedint that athis is where your Problem Is.

How do I shut off a check engine light for a 1997 dodge intrepid sport?

You can generally reset them by disconnecting the negative battery cable for thirty minutes and then reconnecting. If it goes out and then comes back you still have issues that need to be fixed. If it does not clear it then you can go to Autozone and they can clear it for you with diagnostic tool.

While driving 1997 intrepid, the instrument panel

I just experienced this problem. I called my mechanic and he knew what it was because it happened to his wife's Intrepid.

The solder connections on the back of the dash crack allowing it to work at times due to temperture variations. All he did was remove the cluster and re-solder it and replace it. It now works perfectly. He charged me $100. Cheaper than a new cluster!

Electrical Problem and now won't start

One common problem is with intrument cluster solder joints where the cable connector attaches to the circuit board. Solder joints fracture. Resolder. Use Hanes manual to get dashboard apart.

Indication is instrument panel goes dead and car sometimes will not start.

Other possibilites are loose connectors or poor connections in cable harnesses.

This sounds like a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) problem, have the code(s) retrieved from the powertain control module and see if that code comes up.
