Question about 1996 Chevrolet Camaro

Camaro `96 3.8 v6 - problem with transmission? OR?

Camaro `96 3.8 v6 - problem with transmission (automatic) first and second no problem, D does nothing. No 3rd and 4th. (Sometimes when you put car in 1st it makes a ticking noise from under the car like something is loose. The person at the garage mentions to change all sensors on the gear box. Could it be this? Or, would you say the problem is below the car? Thanks in advance

Try shifting it manually,if it still doesnt shift through all the gears then someting inside broke loose either torque convertor or the transmission

I have a 96 camaro and I need to replace my carrier bearing. Where can I find one?

I am not sure your car has a carrier bearing, but if it did it would be located on the drive shaft between the transmission and rear end of the car.

What is the part number for a carrier bearing on 1995 chevy camaro

(a little late in responding - but maybe someone will need this info).

If you mean the carrier bearing on the driveshaft - then you must have a v6 model. I would advise to skip replacing it and instead purchase a 1pc shaft (no carrier bearing). The cb is located near a Hi-Speed CV Joint which make changing the carrier a little difficult.
A new replacement 1pc driveshaft costs about $225.00
The carrier bearing itself may run $40-$140. ( http://www.fortwayneclutch.com/index.php/driveshaft-parts/carrier-support-bearings/gm/1993-2002-chevy-camaro-v6-pontiac-firebird-v6-carrier-bearing-new-f-body-carrier-bearing-for-v6-models-pn-s-3r80-40.html ) - for reference...
You could also check a junk yard for a 1pc oem shaft (most shafts there are bent or have bad uj's and will cost $$ to have fixed )
>1994-2002 f-body models all have the same length from the seal of the transmission to the center of the uj @ the diff.
>when looking for an oem 1pc shaft you will find them in Steel and Aluminum. Slight differences in length when measuring center to center of the universal joints ( 40 7/8" - 40 1/2" ) - but the slip yokes vary in length, weighted / non-weighted..etc = this will make it appear the the shafts are different.
>>watch out for oem shafts with the weighted slip yoke from manual 6spd v8 models. This slip yoke may hit the trans/exhaust mount that is used on v6 models.!!

I have same problem, I have 96 Camaro V6. Engine will miss at idle while stopped at light and seem ready to stall but won't stall. Also while driving engine will miss and seems transmission is slipping. My problems in these areas getting worse. Car has 44,000 miles. For what I paid for this car new ($16,000) I must say it has had many problems.

96 Camaro automatic transmission is "slipping." Is there something that can cause this that doesn't require a transmission replacement?

The obvious cheap fix solutions would be checking and changing transmission fluid, and checking and replacing transmission fluid filter. If you do all this and it continues to slip, the next fix would be removal and cleaing of the valve assembly, a detriorated filter can clog the valve assembly and cause it to duplicate the symptons of a failing transmission, but it is a last resort next to rebuilding and replacing the transmission. Hope this helps.

If they are both 4L60Es' then yes. I know the 96 1500 does but you didn't state what size the 97 is. And are they both 4X4?
