Question about Jeep TJ

1 Answer

I have a 1998 TJ 4.0 manual. It has what I call a rolling miss. Sort of feels like an old carb. type motor when it needs more choke. Sometimes it is worse than others. I only notice it when I'm pulling thru the gears under normal throttle. If you floor it no miss is noticeable pulls great. I?ve installed new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I have also run fuel injector cleaner on three different occasions.

Not sure if you buy your gas at the same station all the time but sounds like water in your fuel. buy a couple bottles of gas line anti-freeze (it absorbs water) and use one for the next couple fill ups. the last time i had that fuel problem the results with the gas line anti-freeze were almost instant.

Miss firing adling during cold engine

It would help to know what you are working on, but the most common item is bad coolant temp sensor (acts sort of like the choke on old carb engines).

2001 Hyundai accent wouldn't start this morning after sitting two days prime and no codes kept screwing with it I primed and runs then only primes sometimes but still runs great miss chug

Hi Miss Chug:
I'd start by using some carb/injector cleaner and make sure that the fuel delivery system is working properly.
If this is a carb type engine, make sure the automatic choke is not sticking.

Suzuki samairi 1987,starts fine when Cooke go off or when engine worms up it dies will not idol at all.

the chock must be bad.
on all carb cars , since 1964 i remove it and make it a manual choke
then hot starts are easy, hot, its not touched. (instant starts hot)

chokes this old never work right, they are TOO old
the spring in side (bimetal) is NO GOOD. it fails to open properly.
try setting the choke calibration more lean.
if at higher altitude, even leaner.

the book is free. see it here
http://www.fixkick.com/sammi-stuff/index.html

The choke is a device on most old carbs (varies by country)
that closes a butterfly valve, (google that) and starves the engine of air, thus the word "CHOKE" as in Choking it.
this causes higher venturi vacuum and more fuel flows from the jet nozzles.
if the chock is set too rich the engine floods
if set too lean , you have to pump the gas pedal to keep it alive.
if the bimetal spring is slow, it floods
if the choke is electic the heater needs to work or the choke sticks on.
if the choke is water heated, the water needs to flow there. again
the motor floods and stalls.

rtm. read the chapter on the Choke, the book is free.

Service manual for maruti 800

there are many different type chokes, (they are illegal here, in 2001)
but they have 5 types. (ive done them all)
1: electric
2: exhaust choke stove. (seen on relic usa IRON V8s)
3: water heat type.
4: and enrich jet type ,complex......
5: manual. (im famous for converting to manual)

on #1 or 3 ill cover. *(#4 just clean it ,it will work,)

the electric choke, is best just replaced. they get old and slow
or clean it and pray it works; is the coil open? 0 ohms. is good infinity is bad.
now the water choke., it uses water to heat the internal bimetal spring.
and it too needs to be replaced, its old. and will be slow or no-linear.

buy the manual at Suzuki. ask them.
or using your countries, (UK?) ebay , find one USED.

Choke dont work

if too rich adjust choke leaner
if too lean, adjust choke righer.

from 1920 to about 1988 , usa, 70 years we did this.
no more. well we do, but most dont now.
i still have 1 twin carb motor cycle and one single carb VW 1968.
both restored.
also the chock heater must work and the choke spring not old.
the old bi-metal spring that is old become lazy,/crazy. kick it to the curb for best experiences.
if water heated choke the water actually must flow here.
if not, it will fail.
there are 3 common types.
electric, needs 12v.
water, needs 180F hot water actual flow.
and exhaust choke stove heater. (a small horror this, dont ask)
there are others, but would need carb name and p/n

Auto choke is stuck getting gas into motoroil how do i fix choke

buy a carb rebuild kit (wow old car a near record here....)
or convert auto choke to manual, done every carb car i owned.
i hate auto chokes, all of them , water, stove, or electric, hate.
on hot days, no choke, , no flooding. no washing oil off rings either.
you learn quick just how much chock is best .

finding carb kits are a bit hard , here is uSA.
google for one,
or
ok rock has it

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php?carcode=1277197&parttype=6004

and the full rebuild ket too.

seems it the electric type.
replace it and set it like the FSM states.
varies by climate and altitude (higher is less chock set)

98 gmc jimm 4x4 4.3l v6 replaced plugs, wires and distributor cap and rotor. Still getting P0304 code and rough idle. Higher rpms flatten out roughness but take off feels off. Any help??

spray carb/choke cleaner all around intake gasket mating surface on heads. (while motor is running) If rpms change you have a bad intake gasket.

Starting problem with my 98' chevy metro

Use a carb-cleaner spray on the choke assembly, and give it a good work-out to free any sticking linkage.

If this doesn't get it, replace the auto-choke valve...when's the last time you changed the air filter?
Think about it when you're shopping.

*To test: When you park with a hot engine, pop the hood and flap the choke open about halfway and try a restart.
