This is extremely common!
The micro-switch inside the glass hatch release is faulty, telling the door that it is partially depressed, thus shutting down opening for safety reasons.
You can verify this by opening the glass hatch (there is a access panel at the bottom of the door on the inside), removing the trim cover from behind the glass handle (two philips screws and one plastic push in fastener), then unplugging the glass handle.
Your door will now function normally, but without glass opening ability until you replace the handle.
The handle only takes a few 10mm nuts to remove and can be changed in a few minutes. It retails for around $35 from your dealer.

Finaly i took apart everything, including motor its self. 05 Mitshu. Endeavor
rear hatch. Noticed rust on it, and in it. On very little motor. My only solution for this hiatus is to install old fashion latch, like old pick up trucks have, and or door knob. this started from almost day one, after i bought it in 06. I am not giving up for dealer would take both arms and legs for this on. No sir Bob

How do I get my rear hatch door open, when you can't open it from the outside?

You can get it open in two ways: By using your key fob and remotely opening latch or by pulling inside panel on rear hatch and manually pulling lever to get latch to release. Most times when you cant get rear hatch to open normally is because cable from outside release handle to latch broke. Have cable and release mechanism inspected and replace worn or broken parts as needed.

I HAVE A 2009 FORD ESCAPE AND THE REAR HATCH WILL NOT OPEN FUSE IS GOOD. PLEASE HELP ME.

You need a latch assembly. Common problem. Open the hatch glass. Then try and lift up and push forward the plastic door panel around the spot where the glass closes into the hatch. It should give you enough room to see the latch assembly inside. Use a flashlight to look for the latch which is in the center bottom of the hatch. There is a white plastic lever. Push or pull on the lever and the door should open. The latch has a electric actuator that goes bad. Only replaced as a latch assembly.

2006 jeep liberty rear lift glass won;t close

Mine did this too....the latch kept getting stuck. If you put the key in the ignition and unlock the power doors, pull on the gate door (don't open it, just enough to release the latch), and it should come out so the hatch will latch.

Liftgate on 2005 uplander won't open

The locking mechanism on the rear lift gate for the Chevy Uplander has some plastic and rubber-coated parts that can get jammed. If you can pull back the panel from the inside top near the glass, you can reach down and try to spray some silicone lubricant into the lock. This could help get those parts unstuck so they spring back when you pull on the handle latch from the outside. Once you get the rear hatch open, I recommend taking out the locking mechanism and thoroughly lubricating it. Your rear lift gate will start to release very easily from then on.

Rear door wont open-hatch or window - can open hatch with inside release

Sometimes there is a safety sensor that does not allow it to open if the vehicle is in gear. This sensor may be faulty but most likely not the problem. Remove the inner panel on the back hatch and inspect the linkages from the outside handles to the releases inside the door for the glass and hatch. These have most likely came loose from the latches they operate

Rear hatch will not open

Fixed this last week in my Cherokee Classic. I started by releasing the hatch catch from the the interior by manually placing a flat screwdriver (something flat) under the catch, pulling the door inward, and letting the hatch open. From here unscrew all screws around the interior panel including the 2 screws under the rubber caps that mount the interior pull handle. Then carefully pull the panel, one section at a time, (carefully...this plastic is cheap) until all panel clips are free and the panel is removed. At this point you will see the inner mechanics of your door latch. Pushing your key fob lock you will see what you have been hearing, and lifting the outside handle you will see what it is supposed to be doing. As you sit in the interior of the car and face the inside of the hatch door, on the drivers side of the latch mechanism you will see a small threaded rod that is attached to the latch mechanism and the catch on the bottom of the door. This threaded rod must be adjusted/returned to the proper setting in order to lift the door catch. This entire mechanism is so cheaply made that you could have something broken in it also....but after finding the aforementioned adjustment mechanism, I realized that it would not take much for this part to self destruct. Hope this helps!
