Question about 2003 GMC Envoy

1 Answer

My daughter pulled my envoy in the driveway on an angle and when she turned the key off everything shut down. I am unable to get the key out of the ignition, the remote key control doesn't, power locks, lights (nothing) don't seem to work. Battery is ok. I think it might have something to do with the security system. Maybe I just need to reset it somehow? Please Advise. Sincerely, Tony

Make sure trans is in park all the way with your hand hit shifter down & push all the way into park. If that works there is a clip in front of shifter that worked out if not the cable may have went bad or came apart at trans near trans pan

Ok 03 Yukon, at first not running but after being towed home it hit a bump and all the lights came on. Took it off the wrecker it started right up, but nothing electrical in cab works, and now it won'

It might possibly be the ignition switch, or the linkage to it.

They reason I suspect this is your statement, "I bumped the key forward and it will engage the starter but still wont shut off"

The part where you insert the key is really a "cylinder lock", that then transfers the turning motion to the actual "ignition switch"

My wife had a Pontiac (also a GM product) that the cylinder lock had a linkage that went to the ignition switch (similar to a sliding electric switch, with the 4 positions, ACC, OFF, RUN, START), which was bolted on further down the steering column, underneath the plastic covering on the column.

Another person here had a similar problem, and after suggesting this, he wrote back that he removed his steering column cover and found a screw opposite the cylinder lock that had loosened and fallen out.

So you could try removing the steering column cover and see if all is ok.

Also, when you have it opened up, observe the action as you turn the key, as the problem could be the cylinder lock itself.

2003 envoy pulled into driveway, turned off engine, went out 30 minutes later and no start.replaced battery.security light comes on.still no start. any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to Fixya!

Anti theft deterrent may have been triggered. As a first course of action please perform the following.

- turn the key on ON and OFF position for 10 times but don't crank the engine
- on the 10th time let it on ON position for 10secs. then press the remote lock unlock button and wait for it to respond.
- once the lock goes up and down you may try to start the car.
- this procedure is for the reset of the anti theft and if it doesn't work I strongly suggest that you take it in to the dealership.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

My daughter had same problem--Saturn dealership replaced the left and right door light switch--these are tied into the antitheft system--Service tech said this is common problem .

Switches are available from autoparts stores and easy to replace-

Replacing the low beam headlight on a 2004 gmc envoy

Just above the headlight assembly are two angled tabs, pull these straight up (they may need some effort). These will release the assembly, carefully pull the entire assembly forward. Access to the headlight bulb is behind the two rubber caps, the upper cap is for the low beam. Remove this cap, twist the headlight bulb socket CCW and remove. Disconnect bulb from harness by prying up gently on locking tab on socket, and pull bulb out. Being careful not to touch the new bulb glass surface with your finger, plug it into the socket and install it back into the headlight assembly turning it CW. Reinstall rubber cap, seat headlight assembly on frame, lining up the bottom and top pegs. Once the assembly is fully seated, push the two angled tabs down, locking the assembly in place.

I was driving in reverse and my daughter hit the 4 wheel drive to on and there was a loud noise. Now i can't turn the key all the way off to pull it out?? What's up??

4wd should only be switched while in neutral. shift back to neutral (NOT park) then cycle the 4wd to where you want it, then return to park and see if the key releases to the lock position

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 -15 minutes. Make sure all functions are turned off first, such as HVAC (all switches CCW or off), radio off.

2002 Pontiac Grand prix wont start; unable to remove key

On many cars, if the battery is dead, it locks the key in the ignition. Put a battery charger on the car or replace the battery and give it a shot.

Good luck.

Ignition switch or key problem

hi there this could be either as both can wear out. try spraying some maintenance spray down the side of the key and work it in by turning it a few times. it could just be dry and hence sticking.

hope this helps Regards JR
