If your buick has the 3.8 ltr i would suggest gatting the dexcool antifreeze out of it,its corrosive and it eats the egr passage in the plastic intake and dumps coolant into the throttle body and can hydrolock the engine and can be misdiagnosed as a head gasket problem, but with 24k on it i dont think u have to worry about the intake for a while, now if its the 3.4 ltr i would keep an eye on the end of the intake below the throttle body,u might see oil and antifreeze,i have seen the gaskets leak on those engines at 30k

While there is a problem with the plastic Intake manifold, I would not worry too much about it. I was a buick tech, I own an 01, and at 95K I replaced my intake gaskets, but only because I still had an extended warranty. My manifold was fine.

The gaskets had begun to leak just a little, and I probably could have just used a good sealer, but since I had the warranty and managed a repair shop, I had it done. You will know when it is time, You will either smell the coolant, or your coolant light will come on. Just because it is a common problem, does not mean it will be your problem.

Buick engine swap,94 3800 motor into 97 lesabre ,is it compatable?

Well there are several 3.8 liter engines 8th digit in the vin tells it all Vin3,C,K,L are all different is small settle ways the most is ignition electronics Vin 3 engines only use the inner sensor ring on crank pulley Vin 3, c,k,l use both sensor rings but they are different also Changing the pulley is not recommended due to balance issues but the sensor rings are bolted on with sheer bolts that can be removed. Intake manifold design is the second most important plastic 2 piece and metal one piece are not inter change able.

Can I swap the engine in my 1997 Buick LeSabre with an engine from a 1995 Buick Riviera?

only if it is the same displacement(aka 3.8Litre) and even then you shoul use the intake manifold from the 97 with all the correct sensors and wiring.computer programs are not the same between the 2 cars even if same manufacturer. or change computer and wire harness from the Riv the the LeSabre.

Just put new spark plugs in 97 buick lasabre. Car now starts and runs, but is blowing out white smoke. Is this blown head gaskets? Does it have anything to do with the fuel pump put on 3 weeks ago?

these cars have issues with coolent getting into the intake... headgaskets are not one of the issues . check plugs for coolent. upper plastic intake has coolent flow in to chambers if u will, and over time they get micro cracks and brittle ...lower intake manifold gaskets are plastic also. ..cyl. heads are cast iron not alluminum . lower intake manifold is alluminum and upper intake is plastic .. on my lesabre a plastic 90 degree elbow connected to the lower intake manifold to the heater hose housing. the belt tensioner is connected to this housing im refering to. not saying for sure, but if it is this is usually why...

Tightening sequence diagram for a 97 buick lesabre intake manifold?

Bellow is an "example" of the tightening sequence for an intake manifold. The sequence is usually the same for most vehicles, but you should refer to a Haynes/Chilton manual for your specific make and model of vehicle to verify tightening sequence and torque specs. Intermittent Misfire on cyl #4 1997 Buick Lesabre

How's your coolant level? The intake manifolds on the 3.8L engines are prone to breakage at various locations causing coolant leaks into the crankcase and vacuum leaks on intake ports.Removal of the upper intake manifold will be necessary for inspection. Also, check for vacuum leaks at various locations on the outside of the intake manifold using WD-40 or brakeclean/carburetor cleaner sprayed hoses, non-electrical components, at the base of the manifold etc. As for a faulty injector, not likely but if you suspect one you can always swap the suspect injector with another on the engine and see if the misfire follows the injector. Just be sure to relieve the fuel pressure before servicing. Hope this helps.
