My 1998 Expedition will not start on some days and others it is just fine. It run well when it does start. The Battery is good and the starter is good. I have even checked the fuel shut off switch under the passenger side kick panel. Any other Ideals?

Thanks for the info. I have scanned for codes, but no codes were found. I had spark and fuel when I checked. Like I said, It's not all the time.

As you will probably know there may be a number of reasons why the car is not starting.

The first point is localizing the problem.

Start pulling codes from car ECM, to do this you will need an OBD II Code Reader.
Codes wil tell you if for example there is a problem with O2 sensor, MAF sensor, AIF sensor, injectors and vacuum or ECU itself. All this faults can cause the car not starting at cold.

Also use a volt tester to check that there is power from coil to injectors, and ensure that there is spark, pulling spark plug cables one at the time while soebody else try cranking. If there is no power to injector and plugs, check distributor (rotor or electronic module), coil, and ignition.

If you do not find anything in there, then test the fuel pump, placing a fuel gauge on the lines to and from fuel pump. A wiring problem can cause the fuel pump malfunctioning.

If the fuel pump is fine, test the vacuum for leaks, using the same gauge, and try starting the car with the fuel tank cap open.

Here the gauge to test vacuum and fuel lines: Vacuum Gauge, Fuel Tester.

Do not forget to leave feedback.

Many thanks.

G.

Have a look at your fuel pump (located in the fuel tank beneath the back seat) and the starter, located in the hood.

Also it might be the battery ar the charging system, alternator.

Good luck.

Why won't my 98 expedition crank after changing the battery?

I would look at the main power fuse in the main fuse block. Could possibly have a fried relay.

Where is the fuse for my alarm on my 1998 ford expedition

Yes the PATS (Passive Anti Theft Sytem) will disable your fuel pump. If you have a second key try that first, in case it is the chip in the first one.

1997 ford expedition will not start turns over

Try spraying starting fluid into the intake of the air cleaner while someone else starts the car. Keep a continual spray going while the car is cranked. If the car starts more than likely the fuel pump went out.
