Question about 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera

1 Answer

Right front brake line needs to be replaced. I see there is a recall: Recall Number: 93V121000 Dates Manufactured: APR 1993 to APR 1993 Number of Vehicles Affected: 2848 Date Owners Notified On: JAN 0001 THE BRAKE HOSES WERE MANUFACTURED INCORRECTLY, AND DO NOT COMPLY WITH FMVSS 106, "BRAKE HOSES." Consequence of Defect: THE IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED BRAKE HOSES CAN CAUSEREDUCED BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS AND/OR UNEVEN BRAKING, WHICH COULD RESULT IN ANACCIDENT. Corrective Action: REPLACE THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE HOSE ASSEMBLY ON CIERA AND CENTURY MODELS, AND BOTH REAR BRAKE HOSES ON CAVALIER AND SUNBIRD MODELS. I'm pretty sure this was never done. How do I go about getting the line replaced?

Ok, I'll do that. That exact brakeline leaks and my braking has been greatly reduced and it pulls to one side when I brake (uneven braking) which I would imagine is pretty dangerous. Would be great to be able to get it fixed for free.

I have a 2002 dodge gr. Caravan. It has started every now and then when I brake the pedal pulsates real bad (as if my car needs the abs to be working) then my abs light will come on. Once the light comes...

recall...........................................
  • SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC Recall for 2002 DODGE CARAVAN
    • Recall Announced MARCH 13 2006
    • NHTSA Reference #06E022000
    • Number Affected 7,440
Summary: Certain aftermarket brake hydraulic master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain Ford, DaimlerChrysler, and Jeep passenger vehicles. These brake cylinders were sold under the brand names of Napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco, Carquest, bendix, and wagner. Only products that were manufactured from July 27, 2005 through January 17, 2006 (date codes 0529 through 0602) are subject to this recall. When subject to very cold temperatures, an internal seal in the master cylinder could lose flexibility and may cause brake fluid to leak.
Consequence: Loss of brake fluid can lead to a decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance, which can result in a vehicle crash.
Fix: Affinia (brake parts, Inc.) will replace the subject brake hydraulic master cylinders free of charge. The recall began on March 20, 2006. Owners can contact affina group customer service at 1-800-323-0354.

Brake booster replacement

Just to let you know there was a recall on the hydroboost on these vans. When the abs pump stops working the brakes will be hard to push. The dealer might try to get out of replacing it but part of the recall was the pump has to be lifetime warranty regardless of age and miles or even if it was replaced before with the recall.
