Either the fluid is low, or filter needs to be changed. You may need to reset computer to shut light off.

2003 crown victoria possible trans slip

I would say your 90% assured the trans was neglected & has failed

That is what happens to ALL transmissions, that are driven hard, never change the fluid every 3 years & continue to drive when the trans acts up

You did the correct thing, you just bought the problem

Transmission fluid

You are correct to be concerned. Look and see if the transmission has any vacuum lines. If it does, check the lines by disconnecting them and see if transmission fluid is inside the lines. If there is transmission fluid present, the engine is drawing the fluid out of the transmission and burning it in the combustion chambers.

Radiator overflow- Check color of antifreeze in overflow tank. The radiator can have 2 chambers. If the chambers breach, the fluids can mix. Since the overflow can vent the excess fluids, it can provide an outlet for the trans fluid.
Leaks, most common. There should be staining and presence of oily residue. Check for lower cooling coil assembly. Some Makers use a separate cooling unit similar to a steering cooler if a 2 chamber radiator is not equipped.
You may be able to simply go to a quick change oil shop and drive over their service bay. They could check for leaks.

CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL FIRST.A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER WILL KEEP CAR FROM CRANKING IF TORQUE CONVERTER REMAINS LOCKED UP.CHECK BRAKES LIGHTS TO SEE IF BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING.BECAUSE WHEN YOU APPLY BRAKES THE TORQUE CONVERTER SUPPOSE TO UNLOCK.IF BRAKE LIGHTS WORK, HAVE CAR CODE SCAN TO SEE WHAT TRANSMISSION CODE YOU ARE GETTING.

When slowing down for a stop sign or stop light, the transmission downshifts with a clunk. The trans was professionally rebuilt three weeks ago. It seems to be the dirty? solenoid pack?

MIGHT need a new engine-to-transmission mount. or maybe the wrong fluid was put it. transmissions are very sensitive to what fluid it has. some transmission shops use generic brand fluid while a transmission needs specific fluid. find out if they used the proper fluid. if they didnt put the right one, get it flushed and put the right fluid in.
get it checked by your mechanic to be sure.

Sounds like it might be leaking through the Torque Converter seal. Easy fix...just sucks having to take the tranny out again.
