The radio display is backlighted by a tiny little bulb inside the radio behind the display, the radio must be removed from the dash and then the top of the radio taken off to expose the twish in bulb socket, the bulb just pulls out like a side marker bulb, you can buy the bulb for around $1.00 for any good auto parts store like NAPA or Carquest.

U may have a blown up small bulb inside it..Some models are connected to the head lights system, which mean when ever u switch head light then they go on..Else to fix it you will need to remove the radio and diassemble..and once open you will figure where the bulb is..Hope this helps...

Hi,

Before your troubleshoot that, disconnect the battery make sure the key is out for 15 minutes. You should have the key in and on before reconnecting the battery.

This is for safety.

The check list :-

1). Unplug the Battery
2). Remove all necessary screws and pull out the LCD panel
3) Remove all screws from CD player than pull it out
4) Plug that 2 cables back to LCD panel and put all parts back to normal
5) Re-connect the Battery

More are the chances, you would be able to fix it.Unless you need to take the player to a tech to check all electrical circuit.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Hi i own a 2006 mdx and im having a problem with the radio. the radio works but the problem i have is the preset buttons the display and cd player dont work.. is there more than one fuse for the radio

The radio is working so it is not a blown fuse. If the radio works but the display does not this is a problem with the circuit board in the radio on some Honda & Acura models. Take your car to your Acura dealer and explain the problem. The may very well repair this under a curtorsey warranty repair. I had the same thing happen to my 2004 Accord and Honda repaired it by replacing the circuit board free of charge even though the car was out of warranty.

2004 Accord EX CD changer ERR and display blank

This is the Radio Anti Theft feature which is activated whenever there is a complete power loss to the radio (as in when it is stolen out of the car). A Honda Tech or ASE Certified Auto Tech would have plugged in a Memory Minder into the OBDII slot to not only prevent this, but also protect the Main ECM from resetting which could create drivability issue.
If the Honda is now registered in your name, take it to your local Honda Dealer. They should be able to pull the Radio Serial number without removing it like in the older Hondas, simply a matter of pushing the right buttons. With the Radio Serial Number, Your Proof of Ownership (Registration) and a Photo ID that matches it, either the Parts Department Or Service should be able to give you a Radio Code for it.
As for the CD ERR codes, the CD player probably is broken and will need to be sent out by Honda to a outside facility to be repaired. That will probably run between $250 to $350, plus the labor cost to remove it and reinstall it.
If you just bought this Honda, or any vehicle, I always strongly recommend having a Manufacture Dealership do at least a oil change on it and check what other services may be due, you might also discover it has Recalls that have yet to be completed that they can take care of for you. Catch the little problems before they ruin that Great Deal you just got buying it.
Strongly suggest you also join Hondas “OwnersLink”, you can find it on the Honda web site under Owners Resources links. In the future you can use this to recover your Radio code after you’ve been registered for awhile. Also keeps you notified of Recalls, Service Issues and even sends out Discount coupons (Latest is a $119 trunk cargo trays for $39, that is a Fantastic Deal).
Good Luck

Radio display does not work

Honda has a problem with the PCB board in the radio, See your Honda dealer for repair info. Service bulletin 04-027 says:

"In some audio units, a component failure on the PCB
(printed circuit board) could cause the audio display to
become dark or dim, and prevent the audio/HVAC
panel buttons from illuminating.
To ensure that customers have adequate warranty
coverage for this potential problem, American Honda is
increasing the warranty on the audio unit display to
7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. For
other defects the standard 3 years or 36,000 miles
warranty applies, whichever occurs first."
