Wiring trailer connection to Mitsubishi Magna te 1996

Can anyone provide me with a wiring diagram for a 1996 Mitsubishi magna te? I want to wire up the trailer connection by attaching to appropriate wiring in the boot (trunk) but not sure where to attach or which colours are what on the harness. I have a pre-wired socket and just need to attach the cable to the car wiring.

I have a 7 pin small round socket attached to about 1.25 metres of flat cable. The idea is that you hang the socket out of the boot when using the trailer and just put it back inside when not.

I have snap clips for connecting the cable wires to the car wires but my problem is that I'm not sure where to access the wiring harness to make the connections.

Do you own a 12 volt DC test light? How many prong connection are you working with, 4,5,6, or 7?

In case you weren't aware, you can buy an adapter that plugs into your harness in the area in front of rear bumper, up under vehicle, that will do all of what your trying to accomplish, with a whole lot less work, and they are not that expensive, plus you don't have to touch wires in behind panels etc. Does that sound good to you, or do you still want other instructions? Also, does this trailer have brakes that need to be hooked up as well in this plug? Sorry for all the questions but, want to make sure we get it right the first time. If no brakes on trailer, all you need is right signal, left signal, & running light working, and we need to know if your brake lights are same bulb as your signal lights.

the unit you buy will have the instructions for getting a 12 volt feed from the fuse box (never direct of the battery has to have a fuse )
the unit slide controller will be near the driver side and a 12 volt wire will run through that controller inside the car to the back of the car to the trailer plug connection matching up with the wires to the trailer/caravan horse float .electric brakes

When I tow with my car the left blinker doesn't work on the trailer. There is a 7 pin round plug on the car, with a flat adapter to the flat pin on the trailer. I have had the same problem with at...

Hello Carol, The 7 way is for use with a brake controller and/or a trailer that has electric brakes. The 4 way flat is a basic trailer plug connector.
Connect as follows:
Green wire- Connects to the vehicles right turn wire harness & provides brake light and right turn signal on trailer.

Yellow wire- Connects to vehicles left turn wire & powers brake light & Left turn signal on trailer

White wire- Ground

Brown Wire- Tail/ marker/ license plate lights

The Blue, Red & Purple wires on the 7 way will not be used on the adapter, those are for brakes.

I hope this information is helpful.

I need the wiring diagram for installing a trailer plug for my 1998 chevy silverado

sammy tatz,

There usually is not a diagram for this type of wiring, as it's wired directly into the current wires. You simply need to follow the wires on the truck (if doing the plug here) and run the wiring to these as needed per light.

If you are wiring the trailor - the new wiring harness should be color coded as well as labeled (if new) for each light. Trace the wires (if attached still) and attach each wire as necessary to it's appropriate light.

I have never personally heard of wiring diagrams for this, at least not for aftermarket wiring. Any other diagrams for wiring can be found in a service manual for your truck.

Please let me know if you need further assistance with this matter.

Review this information and links:
- Trailer 4 Way System Diagram
- Accesories and Instructions

d456d39.jpg

Instructions
1.) Determine a suitable location for mounting the circuit protected converter in an out of the way spot near the left tail lights in the trunk or on the frame rail, if mounted under the towing vehicle.
2.) Ground the white ground wire by placing the ring terminal under an existing screw attached to a clean metal surface or by drilling another 3/32" hole and using one of the self tapping screws provided.
3.) Disconnect the tow vehicle's negative (-) battery cable.
4.) Cut the in-line fuse holder loop wiring.
5.) Using a ring terminal (3/8 inch for top terminal or 1/2 inch for side terminal), attach an in-line fuse holder (with fuse removed) to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.
6.) Route black 12 gauge wire from the fuse holder to the converter passing under or through the vehicle.
Note: When passing the wire through sheet metal always go through an existing grommet, add a grommet or use silicone rubber to insulate the wire from the hole.
7.) Attach 12 gauge wire to the fuse holder with the yellow **** connector.
8.) Reconnect the tow vehicle (-) negative battery cable. Note: See tow vehicle owners manual for any special battery reconnection and instructions.
9.) Determine if the towing vehicle has a 2 wire or 3 wire system.

2 Wire System
  • Has same bulb for stop and turn signals.
  • Some vehicles have a separate bulb for stoplights but also have a combination bulb for turn and stop. These cars should be wired as 2 wire systems, using the wires going to the common bulbs.
  • Note: Attach the crimp on spade terminal provided to the red stop wire and ground it along with the white wire.

3 Wire System
  • Has amber turn signals, separate.
  • Has separate bulbs for stop and turn signals (both red).
  • Note: Attach red wire to tow vehicles brake light circuit.
10.) Using a circuit tester or volt ohm meter (VOM), determine which wire attached to the left taillight assembly is the left turn wire. Attach the units yellow left turn wire to this wire using one of the blue wire taps provided. Determine which wire is the taillight circuit and attach the module's brown tail / license wire to it with a wire tap. Determine which wire is the stop circuit and attach the module's red stop wire to it with a wire tap (for 3 wire systems only, see step 9).
11.) Route the units green right turn wire to the right side of the vehicle. Determine which wire is the right turn circuit and attach the green wire to it with a wire tap.
12.) Install the fuse into fuse holder and test the installation with a circuit light or trailer.
13.) Secure all loose wiring with cable ties.

Testing Procedure
With the ground wire connected and all of the other circuits attached, attach the ground lead of a circuit tester to the exposed ground terminal of the 4-flat end. Activate the tow vehicle left turn, right turn, tail and stop lights one at a time. Probe the three receptacles of the 4-flat end to confirm proper functions. If testing with a trailer, make the proper connections and do the same test as the circuit tester using the trailer lights. If a function on the trailer lights does not work properly, disconnect the trailer lights, turn functions on vehicle off and recheck function with the unit with a circuit tester. Then check the trailer wiring for potential circuit problems.

I hope help you with this (remember rated this help).

Good luck.

Factory 99 dodge trailer plug wiring

You'll need to disconnect the wires from either the truck connector or the trailer connector...
I highly suggest purchasing a voltage checker- it looks like a screwdriver with a pigtail of wire with an alligator clip on the end. The tip of the 'screwdriver' has a point for probing. The light in the probe will light up...makes it easy to trouble shoot without a helper behind the trailer.
Hook the aligator clip to a good positive grounding point on the bumper or frame(not painted).
then pin by pin on the truck connection, stick the probe on each terminal tab.. and write a simple diagram where you find brake, tail, backup, etc...
Then i'd suggest, taking the connector off of your trailer, exposing the wire ends.
Run again thru your diagram and turn on each light of the truck. As you do, touch the wires from the trailer to that specific terminal. (make sure your ground wire is attached on the trailer) you can mark each wire with a piece of tape and label it which is which.
then simply attach your trailer wires according to your diagram to the terminals in the connector... that should get you in business..
hope that makes sense...
That way if the factory wiring harness remains the same, you'll be able to use it with other trailers if the need arises..
