Question about 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1 Answer

Where is the Relay Switch on a 2002 Monte Carlo? My headlights stop working...someone said it could be my Dimmer Switch, but everything on my Dimmer Switch works....So I thought I would start with the Relay Switch and see if this helps, its the cheapest way to start and I have already checked my bulbs.

Under the hood there is 2 relay's. One for each side. First check to see if there is power at the fuses. If yes then pull the relay's out and see if there is power all the time with the key on. Then see if there is power with the switch turned on. There should be 2 powers with the switch on. If only 1 power then the switch is bad. Let me know how it goes.

Why don't lights work?

Both the headlight switch and the BCM provide a ground, or control circuit, to the headlight relay coil circuit for manual or automatic headlamp operation. When you place the headlamp switch in the OFF position, and the ambient light sensor indicates low light conditions, the BCM energizes the headlamp relay for low beam operation. You may switch the headlights to high beam by pulling the dimmer switch handle toward you until the dimmer switch is activated. When the dimmer switch is placed in the HIGH position, the indicator lamp input to the BCM is pulled low. The BCM then sends a class 2 message to the instrument cluster in order to illuminate the high beam indicator lamp.

I have a 83 monte carlo and I pull my lights on knob and all my lights come on;tail, tag, park, markers, but not my turn signal lever( to turn on my brights) if I pull it the normal...

Don't waste your time looking for a headlamp relay. You will not find one. 1983 Monte Carlo does not use a headlamp relay. Your problem is most likely a defective headlamp dimmer switch. It is located about halfway down the upper left side of the steering column. It is secured by the same screws that mount the ignition switch. It is activated by a metal rod that pushes down on it when you pull back on your turn signal lever. It looks like the picture below.

I have a 2002 chevrolet monte carlo and the low beams are out, replaced the bulns, still out...replaced the turn signal arm today...still out...checked fuses and relay...still out, what else could it be?

if you,ve checked out everything it sounds like theres a wireing problem,ie lose or coroded contact or a break in the need to have a continuity test on the lighting circuit.

95 monte carlo no parking;tail;instrument lights fuses good corrosion in fuse panel box cleaned any ideas?

I have the same exact problem on my '95 Monte. I was told to replace my Headlight Switch which is the unit to the left of the steering wheel that controls the dimmer, parking lights and headlights. Headlight switch goes for about $70 and supposed to take about 1/2 hr to swap out.

2002 monte carlo low beams not working any reason why

Hi, the likely problem is the dimmer switch. Unfortunately, yours seems to be integrated into the multi-function wand. That is a very expensive part. It may be possible to repair the switch. If you would like instructions for removing and troubleshooting the multi-function wand, please let me know. I'm not sure I can tell you how to repair it, as I would have to look at it.

2000 monte carlo dim lights stopped working

First check the bulbs, If the bulbs are o.k. It might be the dimmer switch. I think on a 2000 monte the dimmer switch is built into the multi-function switch.
