Question about 2001 Dodge Neon

2 Answers

2001 neon wont start when hot starter, relay and ign. switch have been replaced. Even my mechanic cant think of the problem. Has enough power, turn key all power comes on (lights, stereo, gauges) but turn to start position and nothing. No click no rev nothing. Any help would be appreciated. 2.0 se, no options. Like I said only a problem when the car is hot.

I have already spent $350 on this problem i really cant afford to bring it back especially if hes going to charge me to trace wires. Im guessing another 100-200.

I have a 1999 dodge neon and its doing the same thing. My boyfriend somehow figured out to push it backwards and it starts. I taken it to mechanics and they cant figure it out either. Ive had the neutral safty switch replace, wiring and it still does it. and like u said it only does it when it hot.

Have him check the resistance in the wiring when the vehicle is hot. It sounds like a wire is heating up too much and not letting current flow through it properly.

The only other thing that is cheap to try would be the starter relay and the ASD relay. They may be getting hot and not making contact when the key is turned. This is something you can try, but I can not guarentee it will solve your problem.

What am i missing? no power to starter selenoid.

is the immobilizer off ? any other device that stops power to start or run the engine. modifications alarm upgrades etc these can all stop the power to the starter. even ecu being switched off as ecu has a shunt so it can handle the power drain when engine is being started.

Can the pcm cause the starter not to turn in my 2000 dodge neon?

Is it getting fuel? Check the pressure regulator or the fuel pump. Even if you have the plug wires on wrong it should do something.

My 99 Gmc jimmy will not start. the fuel pump is good the fuel filter is not clogged, i replaced the neutral safety switch, plugged in my code reader no codes, i believe it is the starter or the ignition...

Does it crank or not? If no crank then look at the starter or ignition switch. If crank but no start then look at the ignition system. Check for spark at the plugs and also check the fuel pressure. If there is spark try spraying a little starting fluid into the intake. See if it starts and stays running. If it stays running reply back and I will explain why.

My dodge neon it won't start. it doesn't click. The radio and lights come on but will not start what could it be?

First of all before you spend a lot of money with computer mechanic or personal machanics
try a little trouble shooting yourself. My sons neon would not start it started out as beinging a intermittent problem 1. It had a very old battery we replaced it seemed like this sovled the problem it started and ran for a couple of weeks, then same problem. This seemed like it may be a wiring or inition problem, jumped from the + batt. to the starter relay coil w/ key turned on it started every time was thinking it was the inition. Tried one more thing switched A/C relay w/starting relay in engine compartment fuse box. wa la no money for the greedy mechanic.

1975 dodge 440 runs great but after tinkering with it it wont sta

I guess it runs if you jump it at the starter??? if so, power comes from the ign switch to the trans (neutral start switch, then to the Starter relay, then to the starter. so ck all that wiring an dsee if maybe you knocked something loose, or try to start it in neutral.

did you check your fuses and relay for power a test light will work. start with the fuse first. the relay should have 1 power all the time. the other will with the key turned to start. rare for the switch to go bad. best of luck

Car wont turn over, tested the starter, replaced the starter relay, new batt cables and batt, still wont turn over

Try the ignition switch (the actual part with the keys). You can actually try starting the car without using the keys. You can do this by hot wiring.

Hi...
I read your problem.
Is there a few step to diagnostic or try to fix your car.

Follow this simple steps.
Inspect the RALAY " Starter relay # 47. or interchange with other one just for testing.
1- Check the Fuse " IGN E Fuse number 22 " 10amp. on under hood fuse BOX fron Neutro swicth
And power to the power to the Neutro safetly switch.
2-- Check the Fuse " CRANK fuse # 17 10amp. Under hood fuse box. 12v. from Ignition switch
3- check the fuse " IGN A fuse # 34 40 amp. under hodd fuse box. Constant 12v. to relay.
With ignition switch in ON position.
Crank Fuse only when you try to start. If no power 12v. come when trying to start.
REmove the steering column covers. to get axces to the IGNITION SWITCH.
Trying to start check if 12 v on the YELLOW wire exist. if not. Check if there a 12v on the RED wire
If not Inspect FUSE # 34.
But if there a power on the red wire But not ON yellow wire Trying to start.
Just REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. Electrical part.

Check the NEUTRO SAFETLY SWITCH. connector under the car. Repair as need.
CHeck the BACK-UP lights, some times come damaged making a short on the Neutro safetly switch. ...

OK.. I hope this help on your problem.
