Two things you can check . look in the trunk on the passenger rear side behind the carpet there is a fuel pump shut off switch make sure the harness wasn't bumped , also there is a fuel pump relay that might be getting hot under the hood near the Fuses on the inner finder well . Good luck

1987 mercrusier 180hp wont stay running unless i pump the gas

Could be a small amount of rust got into fuel filter from sitting empty, try changing fuel filter before worrying about the fuel pump.Filters could be partly plugged and its always smart to start with the cheaper fixes first.

sounds like it could be a coil issue after its been sitting for awhile it starts again correct? when its running the coil will warm up and if there is a small crack in it anywhere it will seperate and loose its contact therefore interupting the spark for the engine and it will die. or it could be a bad fuel pump or even cheeper yet check the fuel filter.

Fuel system

I would check fule pump relay... Doe u hear the fuel pump runnning briefly when u turn the key on at first?

relays are a common thing to replace.. That woudl be first thing i would check. next step if thats not it is to see if the fule cut off switch has been triggered by hititng hard bumb or accident.. that usually cutts pup off all together so it wont even try to start

Check the crankshaft position sensor. If the plug is loose or the sensor itself is bad it will cause similar problems
