Question about 1989 Buick Century

Open Question

Hard start my 1989 buick century is a hard start and was cutting out. I replace the upstream o2 sensor and the fuel filter. It seemed to help the sputtering, but not the hard start. Doesn't start easy the first time. and Then will start a couple times easy after that and then goes back to not starting. The plug and wires replaced about 2 months ago. I need this car and I am broke can't afford the 65.oo diagnosic test. Just lost my job. Can anyone give me an idea what might be wrong.

First question is - is the check engine light on ?
If yes you should check it for codes next.
You may have to use a scanner to watch the O2 sensor to figure out if it is too lean or too rich. I would also check fuel pressure at the rail with a gauge to make sure pressure is normal. Could be a faulty fuel pressure regulator among other things.

Sputtering Engin on 2000 Buick Lesabre

O2 Sensors only reads Oxygen Content in Exhaust
Converter,so forget that persons advice in the future

The O2 Sensor info is for adjusting fuel trim or injector
pulse timing,not your problem

You change front upstream O2 sensors at 100,000
miles, as preventative maintenance

Check Fuel Pressure at motor & pump maybe failing
as well, doesn't hold pressure thus takes too long to start

Clean the Air Idle Valve on throttle body & it won't shut off
at stops

I have a 1987 Buick Century. That stalls out

I'm not Roger but can tell you this....if you have a bad crankshaft position sensor or a corrupt ECM....your car will do that.....last things could be the timing belt.

Check engine light

Sometimes can be prematurely dirty air filter, sets off the air flow sensor, which sets off the o2 sensor. So might try new air filter first and erase codes and then see, before you spend more bucks than you need; then if codes return, do the flow mix sensor.

Car sputtering and cutting off

has the fuel filter been changed? this sounds like low fuel pressure due to a partially clogged filter or defective fuel pump..
