Did your "Check Engine" light illuminate when this problem happens? If so, did you find out which DTC's (trouble codes) were set?

As previously stated, when your tank runs "that" low, any water that may have been in the tank will come into the system. I'd suggest a couple bottles of Drygas upon your next fill-up. Don't be concerned with the suggeted mixture ratio, it will work quicker and better to get this into the system asap. Shake the vehicle up by going from drive to reverse a few times and then take about a ten mile ride. This will ensure that the Drygas has fully reached and gone through the entire fuel feed and return system Thank you, Dana

The sulphur is a symptom, not the cause: your cat is OK.

Does the car smoke now?
White smoke would mean WATER in the gas.
It is temporary. Don't buy gas there anymore.

Use a (12oz or so) can of "fuel system cleaner" (complete fuel system, not just injector cleaner or water treatment) ... around $9 at AutoZone, or similar store.

This will take a week or so. "Premium" gas instead of "Regular" gas will not make a difference.

Hope this helps!

Needs a tune up. Adjust engine timing, replace plugs and plug wires, replace air filter, oil and oil filter, fuel filter and clean fuel injectors, adjust valves.

Hyundai Lantra 1994

After some extensive research, it looks as though they have two totally different body styles as well as a few others. The differences are as follows:

Lantra: 1.5L
Elantra: 1.6L or 1.8L engine sizes

Lantra: 2,336 lbs
Elantra: 2,500lbs Weight

Lantra: 11.89 gal
Elantra: 13.7 gal fuel capacity

those are only three differences that i have put up among the many that i have found. Lantra's also seem to be one of those out of states type cars that you find in Australia mostly. The body is also totally different.

The baseline idle is set too high.  Meaning someone has screwed the idle screw out too far.  Probably because the Idle Speed Control Motor is dead.  Same thing happened to me on the same model car. Replacing the ISC Motor is extremely easy to do, a replacement cost me $135AU.
