Outside temp suddenly shows -40randomly when it is 80+F out.A/C stops working when guage shows erroneous temp. Replaced ambient sensor, cleaned wires near battery.any other thoughts?

Check or just replace the coolant temp sensor. This sensor will also tell the computer -40 and stop the a/c if bad connection or faulty part.

2000 Toyota avalon. The engine tempature guage is not working. I have checked all the fuses and all are good. I assume there is a tempature guage wire comming off the engine to the guage somewhere but do...

I"d say you may have a bad coolant temp. sensor or a bad/faulty wiring connection to it. It should be located near the housing where your thermostat is located. Follow your top radiator hose to find the location.

Where is the temp sending unit on a 1981 dodge ram pick up truck. engine is 318

both of them, the guage and fuel injection sensors are near the thermistat housing. its easier to take the ac compressor loose [just 4 bolts, leave hoses connected] move it aside and the sensors are easy to get at then.

I have a 1995 4x4 f150 & a explorer and nether temp guage will work? help

Look for broken wire or loose connection to water them sensor, usually located in the thermostat housing or very close by. If plug is tight and no visible wire damage present. Replace Temp Sensor.

Don't forget to rate this post!! Good Luck.

Temperature guage has erratic reading everytime I start up. Hot Or Cold it does not matter. I replaced the Temp sensor with a new one. Still behaves as before.

There are two pieces on your car for temp related functions. There is a temp sensor which you replaced but there is also a colling temp switch. The sensor feends the ecm and works with the fuel system. It does not control the guage. The switch is what controls the guage. Thats what you need to replace. In the even your car is one of the rare one that only uses one sensor then you need to check the wires going to and comming from the sensor. You will probably find a loose or corroded connection somewhere in the line.

Temp guage not working prpert. Stays on H even with car off.

You might want to chk. the connection on the sending unit and temp. sensor thats the way they act when they loose a connection. If that chk. out ok then it would have to be the guage its self thats faulty.

Gauge temperature

Your description of the problem is not very clear. It seems as if your temp gauge does not work, or does not indicate the correct temperature.
If you disconnect the wire from the sensor unit and put it to battery negative (ground), the gauge should move to the full hot position. If this does not happen the best chance is that the gauge does not work. If it does work, the sensor is faulty. In a very unlikely situation, the wire could be faulty..
