I was looking at Advance Auto Parts and the parts are less than $400.00 including a battery. Is the price still ballpark?

A bit high but still in the "ballpark" Volvo stuff is expensive.

Sounds about right..
up to $500 for the pump plus labour, which is usually 3+ hours so you're looking at $800 just for that job... then they charge you for each other job they have to do.

I worked for a Volvo dealership for 4 years and never once, did I have a request or ever found the need to clean the injectors. Tell them to do the remaing work but forget the injectors, that's tossing $$$ out the window. Plus, there are many experienced mechanics around whom can do the exact same job for about 60% less on the labor. Shop around this time it counts. Thanks, Dana. P.S. I'm probably a little off on the 60% but you'll save a lot more by checking around your local shops.

In your case especially, dealer parts are far better in quality than anything at advance auto...And though advance gives a guarantee with the stuff they sell, you can add it to the roll of paper in your bathroom...couple of years back, I bought a small but critical engine part from them. It was defective. Though I have tons of experience, (even worked on 7,000hp race engines) and the job was simple, they told me I did it wrong (they are so incorrect about that that if it wasn't my engine, it would be funny) That $30 part cost me a $3,000 engine. If you need an air freshener, go there...If you need real parts, get them elsewhere.
If you want to do the job yourself and save the labor charge, buy dealer parts and then do the work. Change the pump and battery (use a "setting saver" when disconnecting battery) change the fuel filter and don't worry about the injectors. Odds are they are fine.
Good luck!

Hi..I have a 2004 turbo diesel Jackaroo that I bought about 6 months ago and its not getting any fuel through to start it..RACQ thinks its either fuel filter, fuel pump or injectors

Has to be the fuel pump. You need a set amount of pressure. The filter is unlikely to be the cause but is a cheap swap out. Injectors don't fail in my view.

I've got a Peugeot 407 HDi 2005 now with a power loss, particularly obvious in low rev range, blowing black smoke - looking like excessive fuel input. Also, it is using a huge amount of fuel.

Is it a diesel. If so it could be the particulate filter blocked, or it could be a failed fuel pump or something internal of the pump, or if a petrol it could be a failed catalytic converter, undo the exhaust and see if that changes, if so then look closely at your exhaust.

My 1984 300d turbo diesel will not start afriend mechnick loosened the fuel line at the injector and said their was no fuel and that the injector pump needed replaced could it be something else

check primary fuel filter for diesel. If none take hose and blow back to tank. You should hear air bubbling. then try letting pump pick up fuel. You could have a clogged screen in the tank.

2002 gmc Sierra 6.6 turbo diesel won't start, has a black and blue wire just under the fuel filter thats been ripped off and can't find where it' should connect to.

wires broke under fuel filter is the water in fuel sensor.need to replace water in fuel sensor install new fuel filter pump the primer located on top fuel filter 30 times until stiff then try to start truck.the water fuel sensor got damaged became loose leak out fuel in fuel filter causing hard start problems, diesel engine wont start if air in fuel system or air filter stopped up.

I believe my fuel pump went bad, I was driving down the road and the truck seemed like it was losing fuel. After it died i couldn't ever get it to start again. I bought a "used" pump from...

a locked up fuel pump would blow the fuse. also check at the fuel rail to see if the pump is working. it may have been a clogged line that burned up the first pump which in-turn burned the fuse.

and if there is/was a clog then it probably clogged the injectors as well, if fuel is making it to the injectors then you might try running a high quality fuel system / injector cleaner. I hope this helps.

good luck

I have no power to my fuel injectors on 88 saab 900 turbo

There should always be power at the injectors as long as the fuel pump is on. The fuel injection ECU provides a ground to the injectors to turn them on.
You most likely have a bad fuel injection ECU. This is a very common failure on 88,89 and 90 SAABs.
