Question about 2000 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

Transmission slipping in drive and transmission whining.

2000 Grand Caravan. The transmission has started whining when put into drive. Car will only get to 10-30 mph before transmission completely slips out and engine revs as if in neutral. Check engine light came on when tranny slip started while driving. It has remained on. Tried to check for codes with ignition on/off, but did not get any.
Engine is 3.0 V6. Fluid level OK.

This Trans Is Easily Disabled By A Dirty Internal Filter, The Whining Is Evidense Of The Charge Pump Cavitating . Change The Filter And Replace The Fluid With 12 Oz. Of Lucas Trans Conditioner And Top With Ford Type F Fluid . The Type F Is Rated For A Higher Temp Than Dextron. Check The Fluid Level With Engine At Operating Temp With Trans In The Neutral Position. Do Not Over Fill.

You very likely have a failed transmission here. You need to have a local transmission repair shop drive it and confirm my guess is correct.

no
there is a torque converter clutch servo/solenoid that gets faults and results in what you describe
run the fault codes first then take it to an accredited auto specialist shop for a proper diagnosis
AT this point from what you say It is not a converter or transmission problem but could be as simple as a wire connection or a TCM module problem

Just to get started, buy some transmission fluid. After you fill it up see if you still have a whining noise or if its fixed.
