Cruise control on my sebring, it just doesn't work!
I recently had to fix my brakes, and while i am positive everything is fine now, the cruise control no longer works. when i drive i can press the button and the light goes on, after a minute, the light goes off and doesn't ever go back on until the next time i drive. meanwhile i can perform the actions needed to make cruise control work. still nothing happens. no matter what id do, cruise control won't activate and the light/ buttons do nothing no matter how i press them. i followed some of the earlier posts but tampering with it still hasn't fixed it. what can i do?

cruise controls are controlled by the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) tachometer, clutch or auto shift position and brake switch
any or all can be faulty but they all have to work for the cruise control to work as a break in any one will switch the control off.
The adjustment of the brake light switch or it could be bad. the brake lights can work fine and the part of the switch that works the cruise doesn't The swiches that control it from the steering wheel can losse connection in a part called the clock spring. Vacume connections can effect the cruise but yours is likly cables less therefore doesn't work the cruize.
cruise control best let garage check out, here are few things to check, check fuse and check to see if brake lights dont work.check brake light fuse if fuse okay brake light switch could faulty or bad connection then brake light will reset cruise control you apply brakes.if all is good problem could be speed sensor or accelerator pedal to ecm.you need diagnostic euipment to troubleshoot.
Cruise controls can cease to engage if the clutch or brake light cruise switch are out of adjustment. If this happens, try placing you foot under the clutch pedal (if equipped) and lift up on it (toward you) and hold it while engaging the cruise. If it now works, it will likely cut out when you remove your foot from under the pedal. Check the brake pedal in an identical fashion. Adjusting the switch at the pedals can often solve he problem. Some vehicles (Honda, Acura, Ford, to name a few) have a plastic insert that mounts in the pedal arm which presses against the switch. These can become brittle and fracture into pieces. My Acura has little pieces of blue plastic on the floorboard around the brake pedal one afternoon and I noticed the cruise didn't work. It was the pieces of the insert that had come to pieces preventing the cruise from coming on. I replaced the insert and no more problem with the cruise.
Have you recently had any brake work done? I had a 05' freestyle that did the same thing.. when you tap the brake the cruise kicks off right? so if your brake pedal is sticking or not returning fully to the up position, the cruise will immediately kick off like you applied the brake. Check to see if your brake lights are staying on when you release the brake. Let me know what happens, please and good luck.
