Solution depends on exact cause of the leak. In general, patches, wraps or other glue type repairs don't work anywhere ahead of the cat or muffler. Pressure and temp is too high there. Pipe repairs can be done by welding but usually that is just as expensive as parts unless leak is in a easy location to get to. So, best and most reliable repair is to replace whatever has leak.

How to find a leak in 2004 Subaru Legacy AC System?

Most places offer an a/c performance check for about $30 plus freon. They will add a die to the system and then check for leaks. Once they find the leak they will give you an estimate for repairs. You can then decide if you want to proceed or do it yourself. This would be inthe best route to find the leak.

The front sensor is mounted in the exhaust pipe just past the point where the pipe bolts to the exhaust manifold. You can search Google images for a picture of it. Hope this helps! Dano

Only get exhaust inside when using the heater and gets worse as the ca warms up no leaks in the pipes, can it be in the air cleaner system

I would suggest the exhaust is leaking.
If you go to rear of car (Idling) and hold a piece of thick cardboard / wood over exhaust you should not here any leaks up front.
