Question about 1998 Oldsmobile 88

1 Answer

I have a 1998 Oldsmobile 88 and the air will not flow through the vents, only on the top and the bottom. It only comes out of the defroster and the bottom vent on the floor.

THERE IS A VACUUM RESEVOIR UNDERHOOD THAT HAS 2 VACUUM LINES GOING TO IT. THE RESEVOIR IS NEAR THE FIREWALL AREA A LITTLE MORE TOWARD DRIVERS SIDE. CHECK HOSE CONDITION AND REPLACE AS NEEDED. SOMETIMES YOU WILL FIND THAT LINE SIMPLY CAME OFF OF RESEVOIR! GOOD LUCK!

On my 1998 olds 88 I don't seem to have a good volume of air coming from the vents. The fans blow the a/c is cold but just not good air flow. How can increase the air flow?

Hello and welcome to FIxYa!
You may want to check on the vents for it can be closed half way. If the vents are good then the problem will surely be on the blower itself. It can be worn out that's why the blower motor blows weak. Once replaced I believe you'll be good.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Vent control has lost vacuum since that is what powers it. The default direction is the defrost. Pul radio sectiion and look for a loose hose.

2005 Silverado 2500HD 4WD - It appears that the pneumatic valve controlling the directional air flow from my heater/AC is getting stuck. When I switch the fan to front window defrost then back to...

The default configuration when all vacuum fails is to defrost vents. Most likely your vacuum supply to the switch is weak. Check the connection of the supply line to the intake manifold for damage. If no problem there, trace it to the switch on the control panel. If there is an accumulator, make sure it isn't leaking and is storing vacuum. If all this is good, look at any other vacuum lines connected to the intake manifold that may be leaking and possibly reducing the vacuum supply to the HVAC control line. Let me know if you have more questions.

Ac not coming out ac vents will only come out defroster and heater vents

This may be a vacuum leak. The system is designed to fail in defrost mode. Look for cracked or dislodged hoses.

The Air flows through only the defrost and feet vents

Inside the ventilation system there is gates that open and close to direct the air flow. These are operated on vacuum on most vehicles. The hose for that perticular gate may have disconnected somehow or has a hole in it. I suggest you take the heater controls out and see if there is a plug with a series of colored hoses on it. it so you'll have to trace each of them to see which one is the problem. Now you may be able to get some help from you local dealers mechanic who just may know the color code for that gate. (which would be a bonus) Good Luck

You have lost engine vacuum to the AC vacuum motors, this is either a pinched vacuum line from the engine vacuum storage canister or the canister is damaged or the control switch in the dash is leaking vacuum.

Could be a vaccum line leaking not changing the vent flap to defrost
