There are two ways to changing the transmission oil. If your going to change the transmission oil and filter, your going to have to drop the transmission oil pan to get to the filter and the oil will drain from there, but keep in mind that it will get messy. The other way to replace the transmission oil if that is all your going to do is to get a large bucket and a small hose the size of the transmission oil line. You can disconnect the transmission oil line from the radiator on the passenger side and connect the hose to the line and the other end to the bucket. Start the truck and try to do this with two people, one to hold the hose and one to start the turn off the engine when the transmission is almost out of fluid. DO NOT RUN THE TRANSMISSION DRY, so make sure the other person understands you when you tell them to shut off the engine. This will ensure that you replace most of the fluid in the transmission, once most of the oil fluid has been drained from the transmission, just reconnect the oil line and refill the transmission fluid through the oil dip stick. Good luck and hope this helps.

NO, unfourtunetly they don't put drain plugs on tranys for some dumb reason. The best way to drain this is to lossen the pan bolts very slowly, droping one corner of the pan more than the others in order to "try" to make some form of a funnel out of it. Get a LARGE drain pan to catch as much as possible. No matter what you will make a mess! When replacing the pan 1. Don't use any form of sealer- Its really not needed and silicon is very bad for auto tranys 2. Don't over tighten the bolts, this will cause it to leak. If need be you can always go back and snug them up later if dripping , best to just get good and snug, but your not putting on head gaskets here.

There is no drain plug on this transmission, the pan must be removed to change the fluid. In this case, I would suggest a new filter kit. To access the rear pan bolts of this transmission you will need to loosen the tranny mount.

Where is the drain plug located on a Volvo 2000

There no tranny drain plug, you must drop the pan to change the fluid and filter. Standard fluid is fne. I believe Dextron3 but double check with the autoparts store (tell them you have a volvo) and they can lookup the correct type of ATF.

Can we flush the transmission fluid in her GMC 1998 Jimmy?

You dont have to flush the fluid because transmission fluid has detergents in it that will clean the transmission. You need to go ahead and by a transmission filter, its only abou 20 dollars and it will come with the transmission pan gasket. All you need is the filter and fluid and a catch pan and you can do it in your front yard if you want to. I hope that helps you out!

Where is the transmission fluid drain plug for a 2000 Cougar

Your Ford has no drain plug, to change/drain the trans fluid u must remove the transmission pan, u may be able to lower fluid level with a fluid siphon pump (rated for oil) through the dipstick tube, harbor freight tools sells a pump for this purpose.

GMC automatic transmission

I'm told and read a sun shell may be broke. Common problem for this vehicle. Shop will possibly rebuild and use aftermarket kit parts to correct problems the transmission had originally. Cost is probably between $1300 to 1600 to repair. Good luck I got the same problem on a 97 Jimmy and 3 shops said the same thing.
