F250 gas smell

My 1999 5.7 L F250 developed a gas smell. This smell is not always there. One web site suggested the fuel EVAP system. Truck has 128,000 miles and is well kept.

There might by a pin hole sized leak somewhere, but to know for sure you can pick up ultra violet dye and a light at most parts stores.

I was just driving our 1991 Ford F250 and it felt like it was running out of gas, put some in, ran fine. 20 minutes later was running it again and it starts sputtering again. Can you help

indications are that the EVAP system is not venting the fuel tank and a vacuum is developing and stopping fuel flow to the pump
when you opened the cap to fill , the vacuum was released but after a period of time it returned
run the fault codes and look for a EVAP problem purge/vent valve /solenoid

After I am done driving the f-250 (03) 5.4 v-8 for any period of time, I smell gas . There are no visible leaks . Any thoughts ? Thanks

You might want to look closely at the injectors. Sometimes with heat and age, the small o-ring on the injectors go bad and small amounts of the vapors can escape. Also, there is an evaporation canister on or around your fuel tank, When its warm the canister emits gas vapors as well. Then there is the EVAP hose. I would only worry about the Evap hose if you smell it more so after you fill up.

2002 f250 failed inspection. HC was high(589). can this be corrected without taking it to a mechanic? thanks!

If you haven't done so already I suggest you take the truck to an auto parts store and ask them to use a code scanner to check for diagnostic trouble codes this could help point you in the right direction.

Check for vacuum leaks at the following locations:
  • EVAP System
  • EGR System
If you notice a rotten egg smell when the engine is running, or if there is excessive soot in the tailpipe this could indicate a plugged or damaged catalytic converter. Sometimes chemical additives like Seafoam can help clean carbon deposits out of the intake, and catalytic converter.

A failing O2 sensor could be causing an incorrect fuel-air ratio.

Truck will run only when i pour gas into carborater once it uses gas in carborater it stops firing

This sounds like a problem with the fuel pump. I would suggest that you check the fuel pressure. it should be 60psi. If not...fuel pump most likely the problem.

Where is the gasoline fuel pump located on my 1999 F250

the fuel pump is electric and is inside the gas tank, the gas tank must be removed from the truck to replace it.

My 1999 f250 smells like gas when I slow down or come to a complete stop

Keep after this issue, as you are at risk of fire. Areas to look, (presuming that you have already looked) need to inclued the fuel vapor recovery system.
