Question about 2004 Dodge Intrepid

My sons 04 intrepid had an engine service light on- front two oxygen sensor fault. took care of that and also checked vac.lines for cracks. now when the accelerator is pressed, nothing happens for 2-3 seconds and then the engine speed increases and the car takes off. also have what sounds like back firing from under the hood. any ideas?

Take a look at this, it may help : The gas pedal in your car is connected to the throttle valve -- this is the valve that regulates how much air enters the engine. So the gas pedal is really the air pedal. A partially open throttle valve When you step on the gas pedal, the throttle valve opens up more, letting in more air. The engine control unit (ECU, the computer that controls all of the electronic components on your engine) "sees" the throttle valve open and increases the fuel rate in anticipation of more air entering the engine. It is important to increase the fuel rate as soon as the throttle valve opens; otherwise, when the gas pedal is first pressed, there may be a hesitation as some air reaches the cylinders without enough fuel in it. Sensors monitor the mass of air entering the engine, as well as the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. The ECU uses this information to fine-tune the fuel delivery so that the air-to-fuel ratio is just right.

There are many points you can check regarding this issue at hand.

its possible it could have jumped timing on that one when you check itthough bring it back up to no-1 top dead center,on a compressionstroke, and if it doesn't align back up you have found your problem, ifits high mileage the chain and gears should have been changed around125-150 thousand miles in it,id also run a fuel pump pressure test onit to verify what amount of pressure its holding, good luck.

1998Pontiac Bonneville check engine light is on Code p0171 how can I fix this

  • Bank 1 Oxygen sensor fault: Possible causes:
  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty
Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor
  • Possible cracked vacuum or PCV line/connection
  • Faulty or stuck open PCV valve
  • Failed or faulty oxygen sensor (bank 1, sensor 1)
  • Sticking/plugged or failed fuel injector
  • Low fuel pressure (possible plugged/dirty fuel filter!)
  • Exhaust leak between engine and first oxygen sensor

    Fault code P0134

P0134 fault code means that the front oxygen sensor does not work. When the engine starts, the engine computer to monitor the input voltage before the oxygen sensor, if the signal voltage from the sensor within the specified time is less than 0.5V, the computer determines the sensor does not work, probably because the engine computer failure, sensor failure, between line failure, exhaust system leaks, etc., are generally sensor damage. To the service shop using the obd2 scanner can be judged. hope the answer to help you.

P0152 P0152 - O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 2 Sensor 1Possible causes - Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2
    - Intake air leaks may be faulty
    - Exhaust gas leaks
    - Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 harness is open or shorted
    - Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 circuit poor electrical connection
    - Inappropriate fuel pressure
    - Faulty fuel injectors
eplacing the Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 usually takes care of the problem
Symptoms- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
    - High Fuel Consumption
    - Excessive Smoke from Exhaust P0152 Description The front heated oxygen sensor (or O2 sensor 1) is placed into the exhaust manifold. It detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas compared to the outside air. The heated oxygen sensor 1 has a closed-end tube made of ceramic zirconia. The zirconia generates voltage from approximately 1V in richer conditions to 0V in leaner conditions. The heated oxygen sensor 1 signal is sent to the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM adjusts the injection pulse duration to achieve the ideal air-fuel ratio. The ideal air-fuel ratio occurs near the radical change from 1V to 0V.

WATER IN OXYGEN SENSOR 04 INTREPID

you need to do a compression test and a cooling system pressure test to make sure there is no leakage.
If this is ok then there is a possibility that it is not burning the fuel properly and that there is excess moisture exiting the combustion chamber.

    What is a code 51

Is refer at O2 sensor, Code 51 - Oxygen sensor output indicates lean too long

    Power loss light: Off
Limp-in mode: Engine allowed to run rich, but prevented from running lean

    Possible Causes
Bad oxygen sensor - Replace the sensor which is located on the turbo housing near the down pipe (for turbo) or on the down pipe near the exhaust manifold.

Bad connection or wiring - Check the wiring and connections between the sensor and the logic module (or SMEC). Clean and regrease any corroded connectors with dielectric grease and repair any shorts. Look for melted wire insulation near the exhaust manifold. A shorted connection to ground or any positive source will cause this fault code.

Low fuel rail pressure - See the Diagnosing Your Fuel System page.

    Diagnostic Method - Trigger Parameters
    - In closed-loop
    - Sensor output indicates lean for more than 715 seconds (11 minutes, 55 seconds)

    Results If Component Fails
A fault code 51 is stored, the circuit stays in closed-loop, and the logic module will still monitor the oxygen sensor signal. If the condition persists for four times what it took to set the code, the logic module will allow the engine to run rich, but prevent it from running lean.

    Hope helps.

Replaced 0xygen sensor in 2003 Hyundai Accent 3 Times Not Fixed!

It sounds like you have either a lean or rich condition ocurring, could be exuast leak, vac leak, leaking fuel preasure regulator, cat convertor. At this point would go to dealer for diagnosis.
